During our celebration of 15 years of De Urbanisten this month, we reflected on five key highlights from 2014 to 2018, marking the five-year period when studies transformed into realized projects and wonderful collaborations took place. 2014: The New Meadowlands, the winning proposal for a flood-resilient green infrastructure for New Jersey Together with: U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), MIT Center for Advanced Urbanism, ZUS, Deltares, 75B 2015: Climate Proof ZoHo: As a field lab, Climate Proof ZoHo implements Rotterdam's Climate Adaptation Strategy on a district scale by combining climate adaptation, urban regeneration and local initiatives. Together with: Placemaking: STIPO, Rain(a)Way Garden: Fien Dekker and ZoHo Rainbarrel: Studio Bas Sala 2016: Watersquare Tiel: The second watersquare by De Urbanisten integrated into a schoolyard Together with: Gemeente Tiel, Gemeente Rotterdam Engineering Bureau and skate advise: LAGADO architects (Victor Verhagen) 2017: Rantzausgade: DE URBANISTEN redesigned Rantzausgade in Copenhagen as a vibrant, water-sensitive green urban street with calm traffic and an integrated stormwater management system. Together with: Områdefornyelse Nørrebro / Municipality of Copenhagen , HOFOR Fjernkøling A/S / NIRAS 2018: Deltares Campus: By redesigning the public space of Deltares Campus, we created an ecological and diverse working environment for one of the world’s leading institutes on hydrology and geology. Here are 5 key highlights from our first five years that set the foundation for our journey. 2009: The beginning: Dirk van Peijpe and Florian Boer together start their own office - De Urbanisten 2010: The Urbanisten and the Wondrous Watersquare: a graphic novel that tells the exciting story of the Watersquare from idea to first designs. Together with: nai010 publishers. Funding by Stimuleringsfonds Creatieve Industrie 2011: The Multifunctional Dike: A research and design that integrates water safety with spatial developments Together with: Deltares, Royal HaskoningDHV, Gemeente Rotterdam, Hoogheemraadschap van Schieland en de Krimpenerwaard, Waterschap Hollandse Delta,Hoogheemraadschap van Delfland and Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment (I&M) 2012: Functional Ambiance, a research project exploring a new way design urban streets that are both places for traffic and for social interaction. Together with: Hogeschool Rotterdam, Goudappel, Gemeente Rotterdam. Funding by Stimuleringsfonds Creatieve Industrie 2013: Watersquare Benthemplein: the first realized project by De Urbanisten became an iconic public space, stormwater storage combined in one space Together with: Gemeente Rotterdam, Hoogheemraadschap van Schieland en de Krimpenerwaard. The exhibition will be open until Saturday. Despite the rain, the park's opening was a great success! We are excited about the park's future development and wish all visitors a wonderful time enjoying this new unique green recreation area.

Project update - We are very happy to announce that Tidal Park Keilehaven is officially open to the public! Over the past two years, construction work has transformed the Keilehaven from an empty harbor basin into a vibrant tidal park. This new park is home to thriving ecosystems and offers visitors a unique nature experience, with daily changes in low and high tide. Come visit and experience the dynamics of the tidal park, and seize the opportunity to meet other visitors such as swans, dragonflies, and even kingfishers.
