Looking back at an inspiring and productive #NewyorkClimateweek with our team Daniel Rosen Jacobson Rob Wolleswinkel Reynard de Vries Martijn Breen Lize Hong Jelle Vastert Our incredible partners Michael Smith and Katie Hoffman from Regeneration.VC And our inspiring speakers including Rohan Patel Sangita Sharma Stephen Snyder Nathan Millecam Constantin Ionel Stefan Thomas Baker and more To getting to net-zero aviation together!
That's a wrap! New York Climate Week is done. What a week it was, full of meeting climate investors, ecosystem builders, policy makers, and climate tech businesses who are trying to impact the world in a positive way. A quick recap of the last days with a few key take-aways and highlights: An insightful session by Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and Breakthrough Energy regarding financing complex projects and bringing various parties together to bring them over the line. Good meetings on pushing the envelope in sustainable aviation, with Juriaan Kellermann of Fokker Next Gen with Shashank Nigam ✈ and Dirk Singer of SimpliFlying, Colin McKerracher of BloombergNEF, and Jeffrey Engler of Wright Electric. And the main event for Elysian Aircraft, The ReAssembly: 2 days full of inspiring sessions from all angles of climate, circularity and biodiversity. Our plenary panel on Fuelling the Future: The Shift Toward Low Carbon Transportation with Rohan Patel, Sangita Sharma and myself, moderated by Melissa Jun Rowley, led to a really interesting discussion on stage on how to reduce carbon emissions in aviation. Following were two breakout sessions going deeper into what is needed to decarbonize aviation and introduce battery-electric flight, with insights from Stephen Snyder of JetBlue Ventures, Thomas Baker of BCG, our own Rob Wolleswinkel and Sarabeth Brockley of CarbonBetter, as well as Dr Ionel Stefan of Amprius, Nathan Millecam of EP Systems, and Jelle Vastert (Milence, Jedlix - Smart Charging and former global head of charging at Tesla), moderated by Dirk Singer. Elysian sneak previewed its energy impact study with CE Delft, noted Today in Aviation Week: https://lnkd.in/ePY-kkVy. The full research report will be published next month, concluding that if we can electrify larger aircraft (e.g. 90 passengers under 1000km), we should. With a green grid, electric flight competes per passenger with electric train and electric car. Wesley Schultz of the band The Lumineers closed off the event, after which Michael Smith and I were able to tickle our other passions as dj's and play a few tunes for a group of dancing climateers. On day 2, I was very inspired by circularity "founder" and Cradle To Cradle author William McDonough, who forewarned that the technosphere is now heavier than the biosphere (e.g. human-made output weight is bigger than nature-made output weight), and that the solution starts by reshaping the question to how can we best make use of our materials to keep re-using them in the most optimal way; or in better words "from end of life, to new life". A massive thank you to Michael Smith, Katie Hoffman and Regeneration.VC for such a great experience. A special thank you to the Dutch consul-general in New York Ahmed Dadou for joining us, and Jorn Poldermans for all your help. Looking forward to connecting to everyone we've met in the next few weeks! Reynard de Vries Rob Wolleswinkel Martijn Breen Jelle Vastert Lize Hong

Reflecting on a great first day at New York Climate Week! 🌏 The day started bright and early, ringing the opening bell at Nasdaq Exchange hosted by New System Ventures, which was quite the experience. What a cool event to start climate week with. I absolutely loved the energy in the room and the great keynotes and panel with Laurene Powell Jobs and Tom Steyer kicking off New York Climate Week, which happens right alongside the United Nations General Assembly, and many investors, policy makers, and climate entrepreneurs. In the words of Katie Hoffman who kindly invited me and who summarized it perfectly: "Tom Steyer and Laurene Powell Jobs set an important tone: capital markets are a driving force for climate action, and are already bringing us closer to the renewable, prosperous future humanity deserves. Now it's time for greater collaboration and focus to scale what's possible." This message makes so much sense, as climate is not only critical for our society, but also for our economy – from small businesses to the public markets. Later on in the day Rob Wolleswinkel and I joined Boston Consulting Group (BCG) at the United Nations HQ and SDG Media Zone for an inspiring session on "Delivering Value with International Co-operation", where we heard a few great sessions by a.o. Wendy Woods and Melissa Fleming. We will be here all week, and are hosting a track with Elysian Aircraft (panel and breakout) at #TheReassembly on sustainable transport and electrifying aviation on Thursday. Do reach out if you want to attend or meet up in NYC! #Nasdaq #NasdaqExchange #NYCW #ClimateWeek #sustainableaviation #pantaholdings #elysianaircraft #fokkernextgen #aircraft #climatetech Martijn Breen Rob Wolleswinkel Reynard de Vries Lize Hong Jelle Vastert

🚀✈️ 𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗡𝗲𝘄𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗘𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗶𝗿𝗰𝗿𝗮𝗳𝘁! ✈️🚀 We are thrilled to announce that our co-founder and Director of Engineering, Reynard de Vries, presented Elysian's latest academic paper at the The International Council of the Aeronautical Sciences (ICAS) Conference in Florence: "𝗕𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗟𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲 𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰 𝗣𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝗶𝗿𝗰𝗿𝗮𝗳𝘁." 🔋✈️ written in collaboration with University of Twente🔋✈️ Key takeaways include: 🌍 𝗛𝗮𝗹𝗳 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗳𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝟭𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝗸𝗺, accounting for 20% of total aviation global CO2 emissions. We believe 𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘆-𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰 𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗰𝗿𝗮𝗳𝘁 (90 passengers) are the solution to decarbonize this sector. ⚡️ Our analysis shows these aircraft are 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗳𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 with 𝟯𝟲𝟬 𝗪𝗵/𝗸𝗴 𝗯𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘀 delivering up to 𝟴𝟬𝟬 𝗸𝗺 𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲—proof that this is not some distant-future dream, but 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵! 🔋 With a 𝟭.𝟮𝗖 𝗺𝗮𝘅 (𝗱𝗶𝘀)𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲 𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 and 𝟭𝟱𝟬𝟬 𝗳𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗲𝘀, we’re showing that the battery tech needed is realistic, yet calls for some new developments. 🏭 Achieving this vision will require scaling battery production to meet commercial demand. Even conservative projections indicate the need for 𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗚𝗪𝗵/𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿, making dedicated battery R&D and production scaling a critical opportunity. We’re not just imagining a greener future for aviation, we’re building it! 🌱✈️ #Aviation #ElectricAircraft #BatteryTech #Sustainability #ElysianAircraft #Innovation #ICAS2024 #DecarbonizeAirTravel #TechForGood

We recently spoke to FlightGlobal about where we stand with the development of the E9X. The progress we made since launch... 🎉 Our mid-year review of key research topics supports the feasibility of our conceptual design. We've found no major obstacles. We will use the research outcomes to create a more robust version of our conceptual design. ✅ We are on track to enter our preliminary design phase in 2025 and will move forward towards a new funding round. 🛫 The plan is to have the E9X prototype take its first flight in 2030, with service entry around 2033. Our progress further confirms that battery-electric flight offers a cost-effective, low-emission alternative for shorter air travel routes. Very proud of what our team has accomplished so far, and the support we're receiving on all ends!

Our co-founder and co-CEO Daniel Rosen Jacobson joined Dutch news podcast NPO De Dag to talk about the future of travel and the role of electric aircraft in regional aviation. ⚡ The podcast is in Dutch but see his take aways below. 💡
I joined Dutch national broadcaster NPO's news podcast De Dag together with a.o. Maarten Steinbuch to talk about a forward look to travel in 2050 and the potential role of Elysian Aircraft and the E9X within this future world of travel. The podcast is for Dutch speakers I'm afraid ;). But here are 3 key take aways that I discussed: 1. Flying electric is possible at short ranges (up to 1000km) and is not just better for the climate than almost all other transport options, but is also attractive in terms of operational costs (something which only improves over time as electricity and batteries become cheaper). This is good news for airlines and consumers and means anyone can fly electric in the future. 🔋 💰 2. Investment is needed in infrastructure and logistics. Governments and companies need to work together to lay the ground works. Similar to other options such as hydrogen and sustainable fuels (SAF). The focus should be on the optimal mix and making sure energy is used in the best way, where other energy sources are saved for larger distances. 🔌 3. Elysian is well on its way to solving many of the technological challenges around larger electric aircraft. Research on specific areas has shown no showstoppers to date. 👨🎓 👩🎓
