Since January 1, 2025, all EU member states are expected to have a separate collection system for textile waste as outlined in the amended Waste Framework Directive (Directive (EU) 2018/851). This directive mandates that textiles be collected separately to enhance recycling and reuse, contributing to the EU’s circular economy objectives. Why does this matter? -Every year millions of wastes end up in landfills or incinerators which ends up wasting valuable materials -This directive is crucial for the circular economy promoting recycling and reuse. -It also encourages innovation in sustainable fashion and textile recycling technologies. This marks a huge progress in creating sustainable systems for textiles and encouraging a shift from waste to resource. ERP Netherlands: Textile EPR Compliance 📢 Starting 1 January 2025, all domestic and international companies – retailers, manufacturers, wholesalers, importers and online suppliers – placing textiles on the Dutch market must comply with extended producer responsibility (EPR) regulations and are financially responsible for managing textile waste. 📢 2025 marks the first year that the Dutch authorities have set EPR textile targets – focusing on reduce, reuse and recycle – which companies must meet.
