With AI being the hot topic of 2024, we asked ChatGTP for its key predictions for the Australian economy in 2025… this is what it came up with, based on current trends and expert analysis: Inflation Inflation is expected to moderate further in 2025, moving closer to the Reserve Bank of Australia's (RBA) target range of 2–3%. This follows a period of elevated inflation driven by supply chain disruptions and strong domestic demand. The easing of cost pressures in housing construction and energy prices should contribute to this moderation. Employment and Unemployment Employment growth is likely to remain positive but will slow due to below-trend economic growth. The unemployment rate is forecast to gradually rise from its current low, reaching approximately 4.25% by late 2024 and stabilizing into 2025. Labour market tightness will reduce as the economy adjusts, although underutilization measures such as part-time workers seeking more hours are expected to rise. Reserve Bank Official Cash Rate The RBA has indicated that monetary policy tightening will pause as inflation trends down. While further rate increases are unlikely in 2025, any adjustments will depend on inflation dynamics and wage growth. Stable or slightly reduced rates are anticipated, which may alleviate pressure on household budgets. Sydney House Prices Sydney's housing market is expected to recover moderately, driven by population growth and demand for higher-density housing. House prices could rise due to constrained supply in some areas, but the pace of growth will depend on borrowing costs and consumer confidence. Rising construction costs and planning delays may continue to influence housing availability. These predictions reflect the current outlook but remain subject to global economic shifts, domestic policy changes, and unforeseen disruptions. For further insights, staying updated with RBA announcements and economic reports is recommended. We’ll check back in later in 2025 to see how these held up. #Bexceptional #2025predictions #EconomicOutlook #AIpredictions

Meet Jonathan W. - PRINCIPAL CONSULTANT - IT “The appeal to join EBC was a strong desire to help build their brand in the competitive Melbourne market.” Whilst only in the role for a short time, Jonathan has quickly found his feet as Principal Consultant – IT in our Melbourne office overseeing the full spectrum of IT recruitment, including software engineering, infrastructure, cloud, and security. Jonathan brings a wealth of experience and a strong portfolio, with financial services remaining a key focus area, but in addition, he is expanding his focus into the healthcare sector. “Supporting the healthcare industry has already been especially rewarding, offering a “feel-good” dimension to the work I do,” says Jonathan. Whilst Jonathon recognises the market overall in 23/24 has been flat, he’s optimistic about Q1 2025. “The IT sector has its cycles. Right now, we’re seeing healthy hiring activity, with permanent roles taking precedence over contracting,” he says, “often driven by cost-saving initiatives.” He believes the new programs that he is are currently seeing kicking off in financial services offer a lot of promise. “Experience has taught me to celebrate outcomes rather than predictions, but particularly in financial services, I think there are some exciting initiatives set to launch.” Based in our growing Melbourne office, Jonathan is collaborating closely with Tony to enhance EBC’s local presence. He was drawn to EBC by the opportunity to contribute to building the team and because the culture of trust and collaboration that many of his former colleagues spoke so highly of. With French-Scottish heritage Jonathon is enjoying the cosmopolitan life in Melbourne, and has discovered a love for offroading and camping with friends as well as DJ-ing and music production. We can’t wait to see what he mixes up at EBC. #BeExceptional #Recruitment #ITRecruitment #EBC #TechHiring

Performance reviews don’t have to be stressful — if you’re well-prepared. Most of us have felt the anxiety that comes with annual appraisals. But with the right approach, you can turn them into opportunities for growth and alignment. EBC Singapore's General Manager, Shalynn Ler, recently shared practical tips with CNA on how to navigate performance reviews with confidence. From conducting honest self-assessments and reflecting on your achievements to setting realistic goals and taking notes during the discussion, Shalynn emphasises the value of holistic preparation. She also highlights the importance of embracing feedback constructively while maintaining your professionalism. "Remember that an appraisal is a conversation — not an interrogation," Shalynn says. Learning to accept feedback while advocating for yourself can make all the difference. Here are 5 opportunities and trends in the Energy and Sustainability space for 2025 from Katie Truong, our Senior Recruitment Consultant who specialises in the energy sector: ESG and Sustainability As mandatory climate reporting for large listed and private companies and financial institutions comes into effect 1 Jan. organisations will want to properly demonstrate their commitment to net zero by 2050 with more stringent reporting measures. Hiring key sustainability experts to address governance, climate action, social impact and stakeholder engagement early on will ensure that they not only meet ASRS/AASB S2 standards but also excel in driving ESG success. Energy Efficiency: The Victorian state government’s implementation of minimum energy efficiency standards for residential properties will see an increase in smart grids, battery storage and energy management systems, alongside the replacement of more energy-efficient appliances in all rental properties. Apart from an improvement in comfort and living costs for residents, it is an opportunity for all state governments to enact similar initiatives. Energy Efficiency Engineers accredited in NABERS will surely be highly sought after! Hydrogen On a larger scale, the Australian government has recently announced a further $2B investment in its Hydrogen Headstart program. The integration of hydrogen and natural gas is one way to reduce emissions and transition to cleaner energy sources, and this move by the government to support large-scale renewable hydrogen projects shows its dedication and ambition to become a renewable energy superpower. Already, various companies are looking for Hydrogen experts to lead teams and drive growth, but there is an undeniable talent gap that needs to be bridged. Wind It has been a long-time coming for progress on wind projects here in Australia, however three major projects are now due for completion and 12 feasibility licences have recently been granted, including Australia's first declared offshore wind zone project. As applications open for more projects, we are seeing significant progress and advancements being made in integrating wind energy into the grid. With the skilled workforce shortage in wind, organisations will need to look at exciting new ways to attract talent. Impact of the USA Perhaps the biggest question mark that remains for 2025 is how Trump's return might impact Australia's own net zero targets and climate policies. Whilst his return to presidency will inevitably change the US's energy transition, the current consensus is that this will be a chance for Australia to take advantage and strengthen its position in clean energy markets. Perhaps Australia can attract more investment alongside a skilled workforce for its growing offshore wind sector or look at focusing efforts into renewable technologies. #BeExceptional #2025Predictions #energy #esg #sustainability #hydrogen #EnergyEfficiency #wind
