Driving the digitisation of the rail sector Urbanisation, population growth, technological advancements, and the increasing demand for sustainability are all shaping a new era of mobility, one defined by intermodality and advanced transport solutions. To build a complex, intermodal future, close cooperation between all stakeholders, including freight and passenger services, is essential. The European Union has positioned rail as the backbone for transporting people and goods and is actively supporting large projects aimed at creating smarter, more efficient rail infrastructure that aligns with EU climate goals. On 11 February, we recognize the life-saving power of the 112 emergency number, a free service connecting people across the EU to critical emergency services like police, ambulance, and fire brigades. At EUSPA, we are proud of how EU Space and technologies like Galileo are enhancing the effectiveness of this vital service. Thanks to Advanced Mobile Location (AML), when you dial 112 from your smartphone, AML uses the phone’s integrated functionalities, deriving data from Galileo (and Wi-Fi) to accurately pinpoint your location. This information is then transmitted to emergency responders, ensuring that help gets to where it needs to be even faster. With over 3 billion Galileo-enabled smartphones in use worldwide, we are empowering both emergency control rooms and individuals across Europe with the technologies to save lives. We are looking for up to 10 Local Organisers across the EU to engage students (aged 14-18) and raise their interest on space careers, entrepreneurship and the industry. The local camps will take place during the summer period of 2025.
