At FincoEnergies, we believe ocean-based carbon removal holds immense promise, but scaling it requires collaboration and innovation 🌊 This week, our Carbon Portfolio and Sustainability Manager, Boudewijn Pars, joined industry leaders at the World Ocean Council’s Sustainable Ocean Summit to discuss scaling ocean CO2 removal. The panel explored the current development of marine carbon removal, ways for ocean-focused companies to support emerging suppliers, and the role of business associations in building frameworks and confidence in blue carbon solutions. Boudewijn shared three pivotal takeaways from the panel: 🎯 Realising the potential of ocean-based carbon removal starts with understanding the market and its impact on biodiversity and coastal communities. It also requires addressing the significant challenge of reaching net-zero in maritime operations. 🎯 The need for data and cross-industry collaboration is urgent—our oceans remain largely uncharted, yet they are critical to our climate ambitions. 🎯 On a positive note, the market for ocean-based carbon removal is gaining traction. Initial projects are already in motion, and evolving global standards are setting a strong foundation, making this an exciting time to support ocean carbon solutions. The momentum is building, and we’re excited to be part of the journey towards a #BetterWorld with scalable, ocean-based carbon removal solutions 🌍 #FincoEnergies #SustainableOceanSummit

💬 “The beauty of Biofuel Swap is that clients can immediately reduce their carbon footprint without extra costs, providing a practical way to move closer to their sustainability targets.” We spoke with Alexander Zandbergen, CEO of TFC, about how FincoEnergies’ Biofuel Swap is transforming TFC’s decarbonisation approach. Biofuel Swap brings flexibility to TFC’s clients operating in mixed-service environments. Rather than allocating green fuel per customer—often impractical for mixed loads—Biofuel Swap allows clients to calculate green kilometers for specific customers and offset emissions accordingly, making sustainable logistics more practical and transparent. By purchasing Biofuel Swap, clients get access to HVO100, which integrates seamlessly into existing truck infrastructure without major investments 🤩 → Read the full success story of TFC’s implementation of Biofuel Swap here: https://lnkd.in/dqBArHBK #BiofuelSwap #FincoEnergies #Partnerships #Decarbonisation

𝗡𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗷𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 🤝 Earlier this week, we hosted an informative session for our inland marine customers on the upcoming ETS-2 legislation, which extends the EU Emissions Trading System to cover maritime transport. This new regulation requires companies to account for CO2 emissions from fuel combustion in their shipping operations. We organised this session to help our inland marine customers stay ahead of evolving regulations and equip them with expert knowledge and tools needed to successfully meet their compliance obligations. Our in-house experts – Lars Paanakker, along with Jan-Bas Goedegebuure and Jasper Voogd – provided a clear, step-by-step guide to ensure our customers are fully prepared to meet the November 1st permit deadline. The session began with an insightful presentation on the background and timeline of ETS-2, followed by a practical, hands-on walkthrough of the EHP2 portal. Lars shared valuable legal insights, while Jan-Bas and Jasper translated these requirements into actionable steps for our customers. Our dedication to sharing expertise and providing tailored support whenever needed is at the heart of everything we do 💚 #InlandMarine #FincoEnergies #ThoughtLeadership

We are team Anouk🫶 From supply push to demand pull. That is what we need to do to accelerate decarbonisation.
🌍 Who really wants sustainable fuels? 🚢 ✈️ 🚚 Reflecting on the recent #NYClimateWeek on #NLSustainabilityDay today the one thing that stuck with me most is this fundamental dilemma: how to accelerate the demand for decarbonization? The urgency Taking part in the inspiring fora of the WBCSD the tone was set this week by Johan Rockström and his (again!) great scientific work on climate models and planetary boundaries: do look up and see the urgency! Even with all the excellent science out there, climate models cant fully grasp what we already see happening today in climate change. It frightens me, looking down in this over-crowded city to masses of people and cars moving like ants. Hope We need to act now, and that’s what many of the WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development co-members are doing already, so there is hope! Very inspired by the film documentary on Interface made by Nathan Havey. What an example of sustainable leadership, avant la lettre! And btw: with help of the younger generation! Ray Anderson turned his multinational inside out to go #BeyondZero, all based on a book he received from the studying daughter of one of his colleagues…. And on a client request! Can you make me sustainable carpet tiles? The challenge And at this, the client request, I see the biggest challenge in my line of work. Energy transition in full progress, yes lots of hurdles to still take (grid congestion, security of supply, spatial planning etc) yet the road for renewable power and heating is quite clear now. So different this is for transport. And so little urgency still for decarbonizing this sector. Even for big multinationals, with voluntary commitments like within Science Based Targets initiative zooming in on their scope 1 and 3, transport emissions often only play a minor role. Much bigger fish to fry before increasing costs for transporting people and goods. And so we remain too passive. Yes, mandatory markets are increasing. I applaud the work done in Europe with FitFor55, including now the hard2abate sectors #aviation and #maritime, as well as the slow yet ambitious work now being executed in International Maritime Organization, really trying to set a global standard for less impactful shipping. Yet, to really make the difference and turn the course we have set with harming this planet, we NEED #sustainabletransport. From no transport to modal shift, to engine shifts (electric!) to fuel shifts. Combustion engines will remain for decades unfortunately. Let’s at least fuel them with #sustainablefuels. So next time when you are physically attending COP29 or NY Climate Week, fly in on #SAF (preferably for a 110% as we blend in via insetting, to at least have a climate neutral flight). And dont shy from tackling your transport emissions in scope 1 and 3 by increasing the sustainable fuel consumption, beyond the mandate levels. From supply push to demand pull. THAT is what we need to accelerate decarbonization. 🌈

“Once you start the decarbonisation journey, that’s when things get really interesting. In addition to our goal of being net zero in our own processes by 2030, we have set ourselves the goal of our products being 80 percent renewable by 2035, thus also helping our customers to be more sustainable 🌱 💬 This is reflected in our Forward ’35 strategy, which we announced in 2022. It ensures that we start all kinds of new processes with sustainable fuels and other solutions and services for reducing greenhouse gases, including CO2. It is important to have such guidelines. Forward ’35 is a vision document; the reality will probably be slightly different. But at the moment, all our day-to-day work is guided by it.” - highlights Pieter Peeters, COO at FincoEnergies We’ve been steadily increasing the share of renewables and have reached 10% in gigajoules in 2023. We will continue to work with our clients, suppliers and other partners in the ecosystem to increase the amount of renewable energy. → Find out more on Forward ‘35 strategy in FincoEnergies 2023 Year Book: https://lnkd.in/dKfhYWn7 #FincoEnergies #Decarbonisation #Forward35
