The ECPG is a network of motivated young pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists within FIP. The group was officially established in 2001, but early career pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists have been a part of FIP for many years. Our objectives are to facilitate connections and networking so that new ideas can be shared, and to open doors to information and new possibilities. The mission of ECPG is to promote the goals of FIP by encouraging the early career members of the Federation to participate in FIP projects and activities. In so doing, ECPG aims to develop individuals who can act as agents of positive change at local, national, and international levels, both in the profession and in society. ECPG’s goal is to connect our members and foster leadership within FIP’s eight different sections that focus on pharmacy practice, and the different special interest groups (SIGs) that focus on pharmaceutical sciences. Many of our ECPG members are already active in FIP’s Boards, sections and special interest groups. We also aim to support early career pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists from around the globe who have limited resources either for professional organisation involvement or for their own research

We are excited 🤩 to announce the opening of the FIP Foundation for Education and Research and FIP Early Career Pharmaceutical Group Innovation Grant, for early career pharmacists & pharmaceutical scientists! 📣 The grant supports innovative ideas that provide insights in local or global health issues with potential resolutions, creative methods in providing healthcare services, promotions of the pharmaceutical professions, development of pharmaceutical sciences and technologies. The winner will receive a grant of 1,000 Euros to assist in the implementation of the winning project. The winner will be announced during the ECPG business meeting of the annual FIP Congress and Grant will be given at that time. One year later, upon acceptance of the final project report by the FIP Foundation for Education and Research, the winner is entitled to a complimentary registration, a return APEX airfare, and hotel accommodation to attend the annual FIP Congress. At the Congress, the winner is expected to present the project results in poster format. Deadline: Applications must be submitted by 31 May 2025. [Know Your Medicine: Cefuroxime] Cefuroxime is available in both oral (cefuroxime axetil) and injectable (cefuroxime sodium) formulations. The oral formulation, cefuroxime axetil, is a prodrug that is hydrolysed into active cefuroxime in the body. For optimal absorption, cefuroxime axetil is best taken with food. When taking cefuroxime, it is essential to complete the full course as prescribed to prevent antibiotic resistance. While generally well tolerated, side effects may include gastrointestinal discomfort, diarrhea, or allergic reactions in some patients. Always consult a healthcare professional before use, particularly for individuals with a history of penicillin or cephalosporin allergies. Cefuroxime is contraindicated with the BCG live vaccine and cholera vaccine due to pharmacodynamic antagonism, which may reduce their effectiveness. It can inhibit bacterial replication needed for BCG immunity and inactivate the live cholera vaccine strain, making vaccination ineffective. To ensure proper immune response, the BCG vaccine should be administered only after completing antibiotic treatment, while the cholera vaccine should not be given within 14 days of antibiotic use.
