  • Happy Employees make happy and successful companies - even in the airline business. Here what Scott Kirby has to say about it and see the results in United Airlines latest quarterly report.

Before Jon Ostrower and I interviewed Scott Kirby for our podcast, Brett Snyder told me to “punch” Kirby if he talked about United’s people. You know how skeptical analysts think — that an airline succeeds because of its network, fleet, or costs. It’s why when Ed Bastian talks about “the Delta people,” many of you roll your eyes. Kirby *did* tell us about United’s people, and why their happiness matters. And no: I did not punch him when he argued that happy employees deliver better service, spurring higher revenue. I even believe it. United has improved considerably in the past eight years, and employee morale is part of that. Of course, we discussed many other topics, including Kirby’s opinion of Boeing and ULCCs. The CEO didn’t hold back. • The "State of the Global Workplace 2023 Report" by Gallup is out, and it sheds light on some critical aspects of employee engagement and wellbeing. Here are the key takeaways: Global Employee Engagement: Only 23% of employees worldwide are engaged at work, with a significant 59% not engaged and 18% actively disengaged. This highlights a massive opportunity for improvement in workplaces globally. Regional Insights: North America leads with the highest engagement at 33%, while South Asia and East Asia lag behind at 12%. Europe continues to face challenges with some of the lowest engagement rates. Employee Wellbeing: Alarmingly, only 33% of workers report they are thriving, and 44% experience daily stress. Organizations must prioritize comprehensive wellbeing programs to support their teams. The Manager's Role: Managers play a pivotal role, accounting for 70% of the variance in engagement scores. Effective leadership development is key to boosting engagement and performance. Remote Work Trends: The shift to remote and hybrid work models continues, offering flexibility but also presenting new challenges in maintaining engagement and productivity. Inclusive Workplaces: Companies with strong cultures of respect, recognition, and inclusion see higher engagement levels. Fostering a sense of belonging is crucial for employee morale. Future of Work: The workplace of the future will be defined by flexibility, technological integration, and a holistic approach to employee wellbeing. Adapting to these changes is essential for attracting and retaining top talent. Organizations that focus on these areas will not only improve engagement but also enhance productivity and create a more positive and sustainable work environment. Let’s commit to building workplaces where everyone can thrive! #EmployeeEngagement #WorkplaceWellbeing #FutureOfWork #Leadership #DiversityAndInclusion

  • Mission alignment - one of the pillars of Employee Happiness and important part of our work shaping the future of work, is outstandingly important for Gen Z. The emerging workforce, led by Gen Z, is championing a workplace revolution where mission alignment and personal values are non-negotiable. Their refusal to compromise on these ideals—even in the face of financial vulnerability—highlights a significant shift towards seeking employment that is not just a job but a reflection of their ethical and social beliefs. This generation's insistence on value-aligned work underscores the growing importance of corporate responsibility and ethical practices in attracting young talent. As businesses look to the future, adapting to these evolving expectations will not only be crucial for recruitment but also for fostering a culture of engagement and satisfaction among employees. The conversation around employment is changing, with Gen Z at the helm advocating for a balance between financial security and moral integrity. Their approach sends a clear message to employers: the key to a thriving, motivated workforce lies in prioritizing mission alignment and employee happiness. #genz #missionalignment #employeehappiness

  • You may be on @linkedin, but your peers are somewhere else while you're at work. Low engagement is terrible not only for your work-life balance but also for society overall. “But if you’re seriously trying to drive employees well-being, then it has to be about working practices.” And here's why that is 👇 As usual, you have to look past the SEO headline here so don't go cancelling your programs just yet.  The authors of this study are pointing out something really important:  You can have all the programs in the world. But if you don't fix the root cause...Then you're just treating the symptoms. Strangely enough, an article by Deep Work author Cal Newport pointed out this same issue back in December.  He noted that companies haven't made significant progress on solving work practices since 2020. Take this as your signal to make 2024 the year to change this. We can execute work in a better way and create better outcomes for employees, and employers.  We just need to actually look at the root causes and take things back to first principles. ----- I'm Omar from inspace .  I share daily insights, information, and sometimes humorous musings about the workplace. #hybridwork #hybridworking #workplace https://lnkd.in/guvZk5Be
