Meet Sandor Molmans, Commandant at Zeekadetkorps Maassluis. Sandor is dedicated to inspiring and training young people in all facets of the maritime industry. Every Saturday, you’ll find him on board Rigel, passionately guiding the cadets — and with great success: 80% of them go on to pursue maritime careers. This Christmas, Getting the Market proudly supports Zeekadetkorps Maassluis (NL). Their mission to 'show the youth the way to the sea' resonates deeply with us. After all, the future of the maritime industry relies on young talent stepping up to join the ranks. A heartfelt thank you to Sandor and his team for the invaluable work you do. #givingback #christmasspirit #maritime #shipping #marine

Gerald brings a wealth of experience in the maritime industry. “I grew up in Sliedrecht, the heart of the Dutch dredging industry, and developed a love for ships at a young age. Over the course of my career, I worked at Royal IHC and later at a maritime media production company. I’m excited to create kick-ass video productions for Getting the Market’s clients.” Welcome to the team, Gerald! Hong Kong is such a vibrant and dynamic hub! This week, Laurens Moerland and Frans Swarttouw are attending the Hong Kong Maritime Week. Alongside numerous company visits, they facilitated a workshop for the innovation platform The Captain's Table, exploring the seven steps of successful maritime marketing. It was inspiring to collaborate on marketing strategies with these ambitious scale-ups. A special thanks to Tabitha Logan, Chris O'Callaghan, and Su Yin Anand for this fantastic opportunity! P.S. Throwback Thursday: Did you know that the Graan Elevator Maatschappij (GEM) was once the main player in grain handling at the port of Rotterdam? Starting in 1908, GEM transformed the port with its floating elevators. These massive machines swarmed around seagoing vessels like giant spiders, transferring cargo to inland ships. A 1925 postcard shows the Maashaven filled with these floating elevators. Their chimneys created a constant haze of smoke and grain dust over the Nieuwe Maas. For decades, they were a symbol of Rotterdam’s busy port life. GEM’s innovations helped Rotterdam become a global leader in bulk cargo. Today, unloading and loading grain ships is much more advanced. Modern mechanical and pneumatic unloaders use suction arms and conveyor belts to process even the largest ships quickly. These systems improve safety and reduce dust, showing how far port technology has come. The last remaining floating grain elevator is now part of the Maritime Museum’s collection, preserving this chapter of maritime history.
