𝗛𝙤𝙬 𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙢𝙮 𝙛𝙚𝙖𝙧 𝙤𝙛 𝙝𝙚𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙨 𝙚𝙨𝙘𝙖𝙡𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙦𝙪𝙞𝙘𝙠𝙡𝙮. We all know the famous quote of Neil Armstrong: ‘One small step for man, but a giant leap for mankind'. First things I don’t want to compare me with a legend like Neil, but in this story, I (Tim Mullens) hope to tell my story in a humble way. 𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗜 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗯𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘂𝗿, 𝗜 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱𝗻’𝘁 𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗾𝘂𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗡𝗲𝗶𝗹 𝗔𝗿𝗺𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴. Because I was faced with fear of heights and every ‘climbing one’ step was challenging for me. Just one more small step sometimes was one leap to much. It was a 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁, because I always have been a sportsman and love the rush of being alive in a sportive way. My sport passion started with ‘handball’ and after years of hard work and figuring out the game I was very grateful for winning the 🔥 𝗗𝘂𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 Limburg LIONS. This was such a great memorable moment in my sport career and having results after years of dedication (blood, sweat, tears etc). 𝗠𝘆 𝗯𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝘃𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 When times passes, I started to understand the power of small steps and first I was able to climb 10 meters. But before I know it was able to climb all the way up in the gym and now I’m even doing outdoor Multi-pitches in the Alps. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲? 1.     Listen to climbing experts with a track record and a (strange) passion for heights😉 2.     Have a peer group of climbers who help you overcome this next climbing challenges. 3.     Breathing on the right way and just chill sometimes after a climb. 4.     Enjoy the small wins with my climbing friends. 5.     I talked about every detail of a new climbing challenge and stick to ‘tha damm’ plan 𝗡𝗼𝘄𝗮𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗜 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗯𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘁𝘆𝗹𝗲⛰️. There are such great memories which I made in my 2nd sport life as a climber and I real enjoy the adventure of challenging routes and the outdoors. Sometimes I feel the same rush as I had when I started with handball during a climb. 𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝗶𝘁 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗹𝘆 𝗳𝘂𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 🔥 . Life sometimes has a strange way to teach you a lesson and nowadays I am even a co-founder of a company which serves climbing halls and delivers Sustainable (climbing) holds. 𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝗯𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝗶𝗹 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 ‘𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽’. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸? I can laugh about this story nowadays, but when I start with my first climbing journey, I never thought this was even possible. May be Neil Armstrong was right: sometimes you just must 𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗼𝗻 and make that first steps which can change your life. I hope this post will make your morning a little bit brighter and maybe you even make you’re a first new step to an adventure 🙌.

💡 Greenholds will be subject of a workshop on the ISPO next week in Munich. 💡 Ruud Bongers from Brightlands Sportinnovator Center / Maastricht University will explain the measuring of Circular Performance.
