Lexology Index (formerly Who’s Who Legal) has named Sathya Gosselin, partner in Washington, D.C., to its prestigious list of “recommended” lawyers in the sports and gaming sector for 2024. The report identifies extraordinary and accomplished lawyers who advise clients active in sports, gaming, leisure, and gambling, in addition to providing commercial and regulatory advice. Fewer than 100 U.S. lawyers received this recognition in 2024. Sathya is an acclaimed high-stakes litigator with nearly two decades of experience in antitrust, commercial, and sports and entertainment litigation. Among his notable representations, Sathya represents residential- and commercial-subscriber plaintiffs in the historic In re National Football League’s Sunday Ticket Antitrust Litigation where, at the conclusion of a four-week trial, the jury returned a verdict for the plaintiffs and awarded $4.7 billion in damages (subject to a subsequent ruling on a motion for judgment as a matter of law and now on appeal), as well as having scored a historic victory at trial and on appeal for college athletes in the landmark O’Bannon v. NCAA antitrust litigation, which resulted in permanent injunctive relief and billions of dollars in benefits (in perpetuity) for college athletes. Read more here: https://bit.ly/3V8lQDQ

Following the recent Call for Input by the Financial Conduct Authority and the Financial Ombudsman Service to seek views on how to modernise the redress system, so it better serves consumers and provides greater stability for firms to invest and innovate, Hausfeld Partner, Greg Lascelles, looks at how we got here and why there is an increasing spotlight on redress schemes in financial services. He also looks at the avenues the FCA currently has to impose redress schemes and how it is hoped that the proposed cooperation between the FCA and the FOS will lead to a more streamlined approach. https://lnkd.in/egjxyT7C #FCA #FOS #redress

We loved this excellent blog by London Associate Giulia T. who explores the trade union’s global impact on AI #regulation. A must read if you are interested in the impact of #AI #artificialintelligence.
🤖 New WAI Legal Insights blog issue: “Trade unions and AI regulation: lessons from the Hollywood artists strikes, one year later.” We are delighted to share the latest issue from the Women in AI Legal Insights blog! In it, Giulia T., an associate at Hausfeld, dives into the intersection of AI and workers' rights with a comparison between US and UK, in particular looking at the 2023 strikes in Hollywood by the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) and the Writers’ Guild of America (WGA), and the UK Trades Union Congress (TUC) efforts to pass an AI Bill. 📽️ The SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes highlighted concerns about generative AI’s potential to replace actors and writers, especially with studios using AI to generate digital replicas and synthetic performers. ⚖️ On the other side of the Atlantic, the TUC AI Bill aims to protect workers from AI-driven decision-making in areas like recruitment and dismissal. The bill includes provisions for Workplace AI Risk Assessments, a right to disconnect, and the reversal of the burden of proof for AI-based discrimination. 👉🏻 Both initiatives underscore the importance of regulating AI to safeguard workers' rights and ensure fair compensation in an AI-driven world. 📖 Read the full article to learn more: https://lnkd.in/eSgsTgdD The WAI Legal Insights blog series is led by WAI Chief Legal Officer Silvia A. The Competition Appeal Tribunal (CAT) has unanimously authorised Nikki Stopford to act as the class representative in a £7 billion collective action, where she argues that Google abused its dominant position in the UK search engine market to overcharge advertisers, with those costs being passed directly on to consumers. The CAT held that Ms Stopford had put forward a serious case and dismissed Google’s arguments. As a result, the ‘Google Search’ collective action can now proceed to trial. https://lnkd.in/ecd9RFgq #CollectiveAction #GoogleSearch #SearchAdvertising
