How to rethink your performance management cycle using design thinking. For many organisations, managers and employees, performance reviews are stressful, rigid, and feel more like a HR box-ticking exercise than a real growth opportunity. How come? Because performance management cycles are usually designed in the HR Boardroom, without involving actual users - managers and employees. Design thinking can change this by centering the process around those who use it. By focusing on empathy, co-creation, and iteration, you build a performance management cycle that genuinely supports development. At Hike One, we are experts in solving complex problems using design thinking. Read more how Hike One can help your organisation build a more impactful performance management cycle using design thinking. https://lnkd.in/e6_kaQ6q #DesignThinking #PerformanceManagement #PerformanceReviews #EmployeeExperience #HumanCenteredDesign

Join our community! Some interesting topics were added to our agenda during the roundtable about the Product Operating Model last week. Challenges: 1. How to convince management to shift from an output to an outcome mindset? 2. How to deal with off-shored resources and still deliver quality? 3. What is the best way to change a company culture from silo’d resource planning to shared planning? 4. How to place product bets and how to decide what to place them on? 5. How to approach product discovery on topics that span multiple teams? Interested in these topics too? Accessibility goes beyond checking the boxes for compliance. As more and more companies become WCAG compliant, product teams also wonder how they can level up in their accessibility know-how. So did Rituals, where we supported their team on building WCAG expertise. Our Three-Step Approach: 🧐 Audit: An evaluation of the product for compliance with accessibility standards, ensuring inclusivity for users with impairments. 🧑🎓 In-house training: Custom sessions to bring the team up to speed on the latest developments, especially how to interpret upcoming regulations. 🧪 Workflow optimisation: Review and refine design workflows to make accessibility achievable and sustainable. Koen Schellekens, Manager Service & UX Design at Rituals, shared: “Hike One tailored their approach perfectly to our team’s needs, helping us build our accessibility expertise. We’re now fully equipped for WCAG compliance.” 💡 Interested in a similar approach? We're on a conference roll... Last Saturday our strategists headed to ProductCamp, and since we're all about helping clients level up their product operating model, we couldn't miss hearing from Marty Cagan himself! Here are some takeaways... Marty's keynote: • Stop using process as a substitute for thinking! It's easy to fall in love with following steps but let's not lose sight of what we're actually trying to achieve • As a product manager, you've got to own your product's viability – really know your stuff about customers, data, business, industry, and your product. We also caught some great break-out sessions: 💰 Financial Literacy for PMs • Do the math! Calculate your team costs and estimated revenue potential for your product initiatives. • Get friendly with your CFO/finance folks before asking for investment. This helps you get them on board early on. 📉 Data: Finding the Sweet Spot • First figure out what you want to achieve, then decide what to measure. • Aim for enough confidence to make solid product decisions – no more, no less. 🧭 Outcome-based Roadmaps • Think of your roadmap as a strategy prototype to test with stakeholders and customers – not a deadline manifesto. • Your roadmap is based on what you know now, so keep iterating as you learn more. Can't wait for the next ProductCamp Amsterdam! 🚀 #ProductOperatingModel #ProductDevelopment #productManagement

Last Friday a group of Hikers joined fellow Enterprise UX Event practitioners for an inspiring day of knowledge sharing and community building. Here are our key takeaways: • Make your solution tangible; abstract imagery can be a powerful tool to stimulate imagination among users and stakeholders • Focus on creating holistic workflow solutions; rather than isolated features when designing for enterprise. Everything has to work together, including interactions with legacy software monoliths. • Take action over perfect planning; share the work in progress early on. • Apply service design skills; to determine if and where AI truly adds value (sometimes a few process improvements might be more effective). • Designers play a crucial role as "humans in the loop," ensuring AI; implementations remain ethical, inclusive, and effective. Looking forward to next year’s edition! #EnterpriseUX #ServiceDesign #UXDesign

Join us at Enterprise UX on Friday, November 8th! Exciting news—our very own David van Duinen will be giving a lightning talk! Sharing best practices for working on legacy software. If you’re working with legacy software you’ve likely come across these common challenges: • Outdated technology • Bad UX • Knowledge loss Sounds familiar? Attend the conference and get tips on how to tackle these challenges. There’s still some tickets available, see you there? 🚀 Last week, several of us from Hike One joined the Smashing Conferences in Antwerp! Here are some key takeaways our team brought back. Learn along! 🌟 Why Smashing Conference? Known for top-notch knowledge sharing, Smashing Conference consistently brings together A-list speakers like Pablo Stanley, Christine Vallaure 🟦 🟠 🔺and Harrison Wheeler, offering deep insights and the latest trends in design and UX. 💡 Key Takeaways • Figma: As one of the most widely used design tools, Figma keeps evolving. Staying up-to-date with its features and capabilities is essential for maximizing its potential. • AI in Design: AI isn’t an all-in-one solution yet, but it’s here to stay. Every designer should understand how it can enhance—not replace—their workflow. • Design Systems: A foundational asset for every company. Whether you’re a solo designer or in a team of 20+, a solid design system keeps everyone aligned. Learn more https://lnkd.in/ewhE6A-H • Collaboration: True collaboration is more than just talking—it’s about diving deep into each other’s work. Structured, open collaboration allows teams to share ideas freely and safely, making it easier to achieve great outcomes together. • Future of design: With rapid changes in tools and organizational structures, designers should stay adaptable. The future is bright for creativity and the unique problem-solving skills that designers bring to the table. And of course, one post can’t cover everything we learned! For more insights, feel free to reach out to Bas van Wuijckhuijse, Nazli Yilmaz, Hanna Halontka, Tjapko Vermeulen or Felix Mauricio Fraile Schumacher. And stay tuned by following Hike One on LinkedIn for more updates! #UXDesign #UserExperience #SmashingConference #DesignInnovation

🎯 5 Practical steps to tackle WCAG compliance We recently hosted two sessions with industry leaders from our Beyond Design community, focused on making WCAG compliance easier to understand. Accessibility can feel complicated, but we can help to get you started. "This roundtable gave us a better understanding of WCAG. It feels more manageable now, and having a structured approach really helps." - Ainat Sagie We know WCAG compliance isn’t always at the top of everyone’s agenda, but it’s important to take it seriously. The earlier you start, the smoother the process will be. 👉 Key takeaway: You need a clear, organized approach to make it manageable. To help, we've created an audit template that simplifies the process, helps your team stay aligned, and makes it easier to explain the importance of accessibility to stakeholders. 💡 Would you like to have the audit template? Comment “WCAG” below, and we’ll send it to you! 🔗 Learn more about WCAG compliance here: https://lnkd.in/eFmNi5D7, or reach out if you’d like to discuss the audit. #WCAG #accessibility #uxdesign #uxresearch #inclusivity
