How can enhancing prosperity, nutrition and land governance effectively foster pro-poor development and resilience? That was the central question at the seminar organized by One Acre Fund and IGG on November 21st. Under the moderation of One Acre Fund’s Dirkje Jansen, several experts in the fields of land rights, small-scale farmers and nutrition, among which Barbara Codispoti (Oxfam Novib), Imke Greven (Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) | Partner in Sustainable Development), Belinda Bwiza (One Acre Fund Rwanda) and Lawrence Haddad CMG (Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), discussed their important work. They provided crucial perspectives on the progress and challenges of promoting pro-poor development and resilience in Chad, Rwanda, Kenya, and various other countries across the African continent. It is always a pleasure to learn from and exchange with our partners. Thank you to Once Acre Fund for organizing this event, at the occasion of the retirement of Frits (Freerk) van der Wal & Jan Willem Nibbering who have dedicated their careers to the topics discussed 💚

This year’s IGF Annual General Meeting delved into a timely topic: balancing our need for minerals with protecting people and the planet. Indeed we need to strike that balance. That is why IGG together with IGFMining organised a side session on water management and mining, moderated by colleague Marga Veeneman, with contributions from TNO, Planbureau voor de Leefomgeving (PBL), Commissie voor de milieueffectrapportage (mer), the Jamaican government and IGF. As a supporter of the IGF secretariat, IGG hosted the reception in which colleague Sita Djelantik highlighted the value of bringing so many producer countries and other stakeholders together: it creates a necessary space for an open, trust- and knowledge-based exchange between governments, industry and civil society. The more pressure there is on harnessing minerals for the energy transition, the more important this platform is. IGF’s work on sustainable mining governance is much needed as an enabler for responsible production and trade of minerals. #IGFAGM 🌍

Last friday at #COP29, our Climate Envoy Jaime de Bourbon de Parme spoke at a High Level roundtable on clean cooking. His message: high integrity carbon credits could play a key role in raising much-needed funds for clean cooking. Why is clean cooking important? Clean cooking means replacing harmful cooking methods with cleaner alternatives, such as cooking with electricity. This has many benefits, such as more economic opportunities, particularly in Africa, gender equality, forest conservation and reduced climate impact. By supporting the global energy transition, including clean cooking, the NL directly contributes to our climate and sustainability goals. Additionally, the Dutch business sector, especially SMEs, has significant expertise and knowledge in this area, creating opportunities for innovation and international collaboration. This session, organized by the International Energy Agency (IEA) and the COP29 Azerbaijan presidency, brought together ministers and representatives to discuss the integration of clean cooking into Nationally Determined Contributions (#NDCs) for 2025. During the discussion, the importance of securing new investments and funding to scale clean cooking efforts was emphasized. The message of the Climate Envoy was well received by the audience and later in the day at the "pavilion for the people" he spoke through an online connection with refugees from Kenya and Uganda about clean cooking. Clean cooking is not just an environmental issue; it's a key part of the broader sustainable development agenda. #CleanCooking #COP29 #IEA #ClimateFinance Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Azerbaijan

📣 COP29 Newsflash 📣 A lot has been happening at COP29 Azerbaijan over the past few days. Here are some highlights of the Dutch Climate Envoy (Jaime de Bourbon de Parme), our partners, and the youth representatives: 🍴 24 young climate leaders from around the world joined the Dutch Climate Envoy, the Dutch Ambassador to Azerbaijan, and several delegation members for a networking dinner. With topics ranging from climate justice to climate action and climate finance, guests had the opportunity to speak openly about the important role of young people during #COP29 and in climate action. Amongst other things, they discussed how youth can be involved in policy-making processes and be provided with the knowledge and skills to meaningfully participate. 🗨 To mark the opening of the #WaterForClimatePavilion, the Dutch Climate Envoy spoke about the importance to put water at the heart of climate action, the recent Global Commission on the Economics of Water report, the upcoming United Nations 2026 Water Conference, and the Water for Climate Pavilion at COP29. Additionally the Dutch Climate Envoy met with the newly appointed UN SG Special Envoy on Water, HE Retno Marsudi. 👩🌾 Together with CGIAR, Eastern Africa Farmers Federation (EAFF), FMO - Dutch entrepreneurial development bank, and SNV, IGG hosted an event on financing resilient futures for smallholder farmers. During the event, the Dutch Climate Envoy highlighted the importance of bringing together financiers and smallholder farmers. This is important as 80% of food in sub-Saharan Africa is produced by smallholders. However, these farmers fall behind on productivity. Therefore, it is of high importance that this group becomes more climate resilient. Stay tuned for more updates on the Dutch delegation at COP29!
