Fighting impunity. Making justice work.
Over ons
Impunity Watch is an international non-profit organisation working with victims of violence to uproot deeply ingrained structures of impunity, deliver redress for grave human rights violations and promote justice and peace. For more than 15 years, we have been working in countries emerging from violent conflict. We have found that victims know best what is needed to achieve justice for themselves and their communities and prevent violence from recurring, yet they are routinely excluded from these processes. Our role is to address this omission and ensure their demands are met. Impunity Watch currently works in Central America, North Africa and the Great Lakes region of Africa, the Middle East and the Western Balkans. We have presence in Guatemala and Burundi, and our headquarters are in The Hague, The Netherlands. We conduct comparative research on priority themes relating to overcoming impunity and maintain international partnerships to fight impunity and transform justice. We are committed to prioritising long-term engagements in all our programming, operations and advocacy work, and work at community/local, as well as national, regional and international levels. Working together with victims, survivors and affected communities is at the heart of everything we do.

👏Statement: Impunity Watch welcomes the appointment of Ms. Karla Quintana-Osuna as the Head of the Independent Institution on Missing Persons in the Syrian Arab Republic (IIMP) 📢 Find out what Syrian victim groups had to say regarding this announcement: https://bit.ly/3ZP9Zfo “We are hopeful, especially that [Ms. Quintana] has worked in complex contexts like Syria’s and has an extensive experience in searching for missing persons. She appears to be very well suited to lead the IIMP.” - Yasmen Almashan of the Caesar Families Association, part of the Truth and Justice Charter ** In June 2023, the #IIMP was established by the United Nations General Assembly to clarify the fate and whereabouts of all #missing persons in #Syria, and provide adequate support to victims, survivors, and families of the missing. ⚖️ We look forward to collaborating with Ms. Quintana and her team. We also call for the full cooperation of the transitional Syrian authorities. We will continue to support our partners who have led the efforts to address Syria’s missing persons crisis. #impunity #humanrights #justice #accountability #victimparticipation

🗣️Survivors speak up from the DRC: “To repair the past, we all need to be involved” On #Afrikadag (#AfricaDay), we supported a groundbreaking conversation for victim groups and survivors from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), including the diaspora in the Netherlands, to frame their vision of justice. Diavy Kubuya, the Committee Secretary of the North Kivu Coalition of Victim Groups, highlighted: “Victims are the reason why transitional justice comes to life... we have to participate throughout the process in the #DRC.” 🎞️ Watch his full video: https://lnkd.in/ehrvRYfG 📰 Our recap of the discussion: https://bit.ly/49ockSY Cordaid Cordaid RDC Foundation Max van der Stoel (FMS) FEPS Europe Just Future RDC #justice #impunity #DRC #JustFuture #Afrikadag #AfricaDay #victimparticipation #advocacy
