The education subgroup of the ISBT Clinical Transfusion Working is dedicated to sharing knowledge and promoting education in clinical transfusion. Today, we’re highlighting an interesting study on managing early-onset severe haemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn (HDFN). This research explores innovative approaches to reduce the need for intrauterine transfusions in high-risk pregnancies. It’s important to note that the study focused on centers in high-income countries and a new drug, which might not be widely used yet. To encourage broader participation, we’d like to ask: 🩺 Have you encountered pregnancies requiring intrauterine transfusions in your practice? What challenges or experiences stood out to you? Swipe through the carousel to explore more about the study. #ISBTClinical #TransfusionMedicine #ClinicalEducation #ISBT #MaternalFetalHealth

🩸 Exciting new research from #VoxSanguinis! Check out these four recent articles advancing transfusion medicine: 1️⃣ Donor Screening & Ethnic Minority Recruitment Questions on travel and sexual contact deter minority donors, amplifying perceived racial bias. Black non-donors are disproportionately affected, with negative word-of-mouth impacting recruitment. Read the study here: https://lnkd.in/d6pfR7kB 2️⃣ Sexual Risk Behaviour & PEP/PrEP Deferrals Switching to sexual risk behaviour screening stabilized PEP deferrals but doubled PrEP deferrals, highlighting the need to balance donor safety and inclusivity. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/d5UhkssG 3️⃣ Donor Age, Storage & RBC Quality Older donors’ RBCs show declining S-nitrosylated haemoglobin levels during storage, suggesting that RBCs from older women may need shorter storage times. See the research: https://lnkd.in/dcWRcUTQ 4️⃣ Missed Opportunities in Anemia Diagnosis A lack of standardized anemia workups leads to high rates of unidentified anemia, with affected patients receiving fewer transfusions. Explore the findings: https://lnkd.in/dC9fPYR6 💡 These insights emphasize the need for innovative approaches to improve donor recruitment, blood storage, and patient outcomes. #BloodDonation #TransfusionMedicine #HealthcareResearch #Inclusion #PatientCare Micah Prochaska, Zubair Abba, Cuiping Zhang, Samra Uzicanin Sheila O'Brien Richard Mills, Katy Davison, Nadine Eaton, Sue Brailsford,
