🚢 The integration of automated and remote-controlled technologies in inland navigation offers significant opportunities—but also new challenges for the insurance industry. 🔍 Data transparency, tailored insurance models, and a clear regulatory framework are crucial to address insurability and liability issues. 🤝 In its latest position paper, the GDV Gesamtverband der Deutschen Versicherungswirtschaft e.V. emphasizes that insurers shall actively collaborate with technology developers, operators, and regulators to ensure the safe and efficient use of these innovations. 📄 Learn more in the GDV position paper (in the German language) below: https://lnkd.in/enc--pYD #GDV #insurance #collaboration #regulation #automated #inlandnavigation

⚓ As you may know, IVR (EU) has maintained a European register of active inland navigation vessels for over 145 years now. It contains extensive data of over 20,000 vessels from numerous European countries and is being updated on a daily basis. 📈 From this 𝗜𝗩𝗥 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 we regularly publish statistics to provide insight, discover certain trends or to measure the impact of innovations or implemented measures, to name a few. 💡 While looking at the newly built vessels of last year, being 𝟲𝟬 𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰, we notice a significant drop compared to the year before, being 𝟭𝟯𝟱 𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯. Another interesting conclusion is linked to the newly built vessels in the different countries. Below we highlighted a few of these findings. 🔍 While about half of the vessels built in 2023 were destined for the Netherlands, this share has decreased to one-third in 2024. Notably, there has been a significant shift in tanker construction, with fewer ships built for the Netherlands and a marked increase for Belgium and Luxembourg. 🚢 The dynamics of shipbuilding are constantly changing — interesting to see how the industry adapts. What are your thoughts on this apparent change? 💙 Would you like to know more about the 𝗜𝗩𝗥 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 or stay updated about developments in European inland navigation? ⚓ The 𝗗𝘂𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝗦𝘂𝗯𝘀𝗶𝗱𝘆 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗜𝗻𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗩𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘀 (SRVB) reopened on January 13, 2025, with a budget of € 𝟭𝟵 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 for the year. Since 2021 the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management has allocated tens of millions of euros for various initiatives aimed at making inland navigation more sustainable, in particular to reduce NOx and particulate matter. 💶 By the end of the day, 𝟭𝟰𝟲 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 totaling over € 𝟮𝟳 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 had been submitted, exceeding the budget. A random draw will determine the order in which applications are reviewed. 📝 Applications can still be submitted, as rejections may allow later entries to qualify. An evaluation after this round will determine the scheme's future. Applications are managed online through the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) | Partner in Sustainable Development website, with support available from Expertise- en InnovatieCentrum Binnenvaart (EICB). #IVReu #InlandNavigation #SubsidyScheme #Netherlands #Sustainability 📸 𝒊𝒎𝒂𝒈𝒆 𝑨𝑰-𝒈𝒆𝒏𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒅
