After Christmas dinner, there are often leftovers. You can use them for a tasty, easy meal on the third day of Christmas. Or give them to your guests right away. Another round of Christmas fun, and foodwaste-free! Even better are the tips on how to prevent waste and minimize food waste before, during and after the Xmas days. BEFORE X-MAS Make a plan, check your inventory and stick to your list Who will be eating with you? Are they big or small eaters? What do they like to eat, and what not? Adjust the recipes you choose and the quantities accordingly. Are you cooking together? Discuss who will make or bring what so that there are no duplicates. DURING X-MAS Use a scale or measuring cup to weigh ingredients. Put food on the table in small quantities and only re-fill these dishes when they are finished. And use the whole product (f.i. broccoli, skin and seeds of a pumpkin...) AFTER X-MAS Store leftovers smartly by cooling these down and store them in the refrigerator within 2 hours, in the right place: Tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and eggplant stay good longer and outside the refrigerator. The same goes for tropical fruits such as banana, pineapple and mango. Set the refrigerator to 4 °C, this is the ideal temperature. Always use meal leftovers that you keep in the refrigerator within 2 days. Do you want to keep them longer? Many leftovers can be kept in the freezer for up to 3 months. You can also give your leftovers to your guests right away, or share them with your neighbors. That fits in nicely with the Christmas spirit!
