🌍 Navigating Loss and Damage : A Path to Justice for Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities 🌍 As the Loss and Damage Fund moves closer to disbursing funds in 2025, key questions remain: ❓ How can the Loss and Damage Fund best benefit Indigenous and local communities—through design, the amount of funds, or other criteria? ❓ How can an effective fund respond to non-economic losses, such as damage to sacred sites like the Osun Osogbo grove in Nigeria for example? ❓ What approaches should be taken to advocate for disaggregated data on economic and non-economic impacts, and why is this data so crucial? 🗓️ Join us on December 5th for a focused discussion on these key issues 🗓️ 💬 We are honoured to welcome speakers: Janene Yazzie of the NDN Collective & Heather McGray of the Climate Justice Resilience Fund 💬 ❗Don’t miss it - sign up by clicking here ➡️ https://lnkd.in/e266d6Ph

The UN Panel Report places a strong focus on the producer countries’ perspectives, highlighting the need for equitable benefit-sharing. Transparency in supply chains and governance is crucial to empower stakeholders and mitigate risks. Land rights and critical minerals: a just energy transition? “Human Rights must be at the core of all mineral value chains” is the first principle in the Report of the UN Secretary General’s Panel on Critical Energy Transition Minerals – released in September 2024. According to the report, these chains must also be “underpinned by justice and equity” (Principle 3). But what it might mean to take fast action to ensure adherence to these principles? This webinar will delve into the land governance dimensions of mining minerals that are critical to a green future, sharing insights from diverse practical approaches across diverse geographies to address complex challenges on the ground to secure the rights of indigenous peoples and local communities, whilst asking big picture questions on the role of land data, the land footprint and spatial justice dimensions of the energy transition.
