By examining need-supportive and need-thwarting behaviors, her findings provide insights into how teaching can be adapted to better meet student needs. 📢 Paper Alert!🎓 ✨ Thrilled to share our latest publication: "Identifying Behaviours Representative of Agentic Engagement in Pre-clinical Medical Education PBL Groups" with co-authors Alexandra Androni, Joke Fleer, Laura R. Smids, Joke M. van der Wouden, A. Debbie C. Jaarsma, and Johanna Schönrock-Adema. 🔍 What’s it about? We explored agentic engagement—students’ proactive and intentional contributions to their learning process—in the context of second-year problem-based learning (PBL) groups in medical education. This concept, developed in secondary education, proved to hold valuable relevance in our setting. 📊 Key findings: We identified 10 observable behaviors that signify agentic engagement in medical PBL groups. While some behaviors (e.g., asking questions, expressing expectations) aligned with prior literature, others were unique to our context, like: - Making learning as interactive as possible, - Creating alternative ways to cover material, - Enriching peers’ insights. 🔗 Want to dive into the details? Decolonizing of the medical curriculum (and practice) is fundamental for reaching a sustainable health care.

🌟 Highlight from 6th LEARN Symposium Dr. Matthew Harris, Clinical Senior Lecturer in Public Health Medicine at Imperial College London, delivered a truly inspiring lecture on "Decolonizing Healthcare Innovation: Low-cost Solutions from Low-Income Countries." With an extensive global health background, including work as a GP in Brazil, a WHO consultant in Ethiopia, and a global health advisor to the UK government, Dr. Harris is one of those rare individuals who actively chooses to make a difference. His unique perspective bridges diverse experiences and challenges conventional norms. In his talk, Dr. Harris showcased innovative, low-cost healthcare solutions from countries like India, Bangladesh, and Brazil, demonstrating how they could transform fields such as neonatal medicine and cardiology. He also explored how challenging the western gaze in clinical culture could foster a more balanced and sustainable global healthcare knowledge ecosystem.
