Next year, the showUP / Trade Show for Home & Gift will be the stage for the launch of showUP College. The presentation will take place on Sunday, February 2, and Monday, February 3, 2025, at Expo Greater Amsterdam. This platform offers emerging design talent a unique opportunity to present their work to a professional audience. showUP College prepares entrepreneurs for successful trade fair participation through masterclasses and feedback sessions. Participants learn about pricing, packaging, and purchasing processes, with a collective presentation during showUP as the highlight. In collaboration with mo man tai and myself, showUP will introduce seven promising entrepreneurs and their products. Designed by HOXE brings the warmth of sunlight to life with porcelain lamps, Dooie Mus creates humorous, sustainable gifts, Jess is more designs playful hand-printed lino prints, MinneWorks offers sustainable wool plant pots, Noord see Lights showcases personalized lighting inspired by the North Sea, Pepijn De Greef gives an artistic twist to tin cans, and Valerie Touw of Saudade Collective combines craftsmanship and tradition in her collections. The showUP trade show provides the perfect platform for these talents. During Dutch Design Week we present our "re-campaign" project: Pillarisation versus Human Rights - an exhibition where we visually explore the tension between social division and the universal struggle for freedom and equality. This installation is made from just ONE used outdoor XL canvas, which normally finds its way back into a full recycling process. But we asked ourselves - why not breathe new life into the "backdrop" of a past campaign? After experimenting with the heavy fabric (which had an impressive original size of 18 x 46 metres and covered an entire building façade) we deliberately cut it to size, created long, visually appealing cut-outs with pixelated details and colour transitions. With the result, we want to draw attention to issues that (also) deserve a 'campaign' like this; Pillarisation versus Human Rights - in a world often divided along ideological, cultural and political lines, this exhibition seeks to question the pillars that divide us and how they shape our entitlement to human rights. Through bold visual storytelling and thought-provoking installations, we invite you to reflect, question and imagine a future where diversity is our greatest strength and human dignity is a right, not a privilege. Van Eesteren Museum Amsterdam x mo man tai x GLUE amsterdam connected by design | 20 september - 27 oktober Het Van Eesteren Museum doet dit jaar weer mee aan het GLUE designfestival, een vierdaags evenement dat ontwerpers, architecten, merken en het publiek samenbrengt via een ontwerproute door de stad. In samenwerking met design studio mo man tai presenteren we een nieuw designobject in de Van Eesteren Museumwoning. Launch Party | 20 september, 17:00 uur Studio mo man tai, bestaande uit het ontwerpduo Ulrike Jurklies en Paul Bas uit Eindhoven, onthult tijdens de launch party een nieuwe mobile, geïnspireerd op de Anvia lamp uit onze collectie. Dit werk combineert traditionele en hedendaagse productietechnieken. We nodigen je van harte uit om hierbij aanwezig te zijn, de ontwerpers te ontmoeten en het nieuwe werk te bewonderen. Van Eesteren Gesprek: Stoelen, Shavers & Speeltjes | 22 september, 15:00 uur Tijdens GLUE organiseert het Van Eesteren Museum een speciale editie van het Van Eesteren Gesprek, gericht op ontwerpen voor het vrouwelijk lichaam. Deze lezing sluit aan bij de tentoonstelling For Women Only, die de maatschappelijke rol van vrouwen in productontwerp onderzoekt. Sprekers zijn ontwerpers Nienke Helder en Anna Aagaard Jensen, samen met erfgoedspecialist Judith van Bezu-Bakker van NEMO . Zij reflecteren op de betekenis van ontwerpen voor het vrouwelijk lichaam en bespreken de maatschappelijke en culturele impact hiervan, met speciale aandacht voor gebruiksvoorwerpen zoals de iconische Ladyshave-collectie. In June, COCOON HOUSE not only opens the doors of its new showroom in Hilversum but also welcomes a diverse selection of design and art in a colorful summer salon. In this exhibition, the work of renowned designers interacts with the characteristic vintage furniture from the Cocoon House collection. Stylist Sander van Eyck and I have created an engaging dialogue, where each design item, artwork, and piece of furniture tells its own story. Participants include Dirk Duif, Fransje Gimbrere, Inge Simonis, Karel Bodegom, Kiki Van Eijk, Marcio Pontes, Mariekke Jansen, Nienke Sikkema, Sandra Keja Planken, mo man tai, Studio Range, Sven Jansse, and Novel Grey.
