Gene expression in our cells is constantly changing, influenced by factors like physical activity, diet, stress levels, and more. These external factors alter the cell’s metabolic state and energy availability, which in turn affects gene expression. But how exactly does cellular energy impact the regulation of genes? 🧬 Find out more 👉 https://lnkd.in/dD_KqQax Author: Laurine van Gijn

Over ons
Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD⁺) is an incredible molecule. Studying how its consumption and production relate to aging , health, and age-related diseases, is the base of NADIS, the NAD⁺ International Student Training Network. NADIS is an EU funded PhD student training network.

The science behind ageing and longevity is a fascinating field. Motivated by this, NADIS DCs Kasper T. Vinten and Maria Magdalena Tretowicz attended the Biology of Ageing master class (MF9246) at the University of Oslo (UiO), organised by NADIS PI, Evandro Fei Fang. This course explored diverse topics, from evolutionary and mechanistic theories of ageing to dietary restriction, cellular senescence, and ageing interventions. A huge appreciation to Evandro Fei Fang and colleagues who did an amazing job scouting the leading experts within the ageing field to share their insights and research. Below are Maria and Kasper together with Evandro and fellow DC Johannes Frank. #NADIS #MSCA #UiO #BiologyOfAgeing #LongevityResearch

Can blood NAD+ level reveal your biological age? When we think about aging, we often focus on visible signs like wrinkles, gray hair, and decreased energy. However, we are now looking deeper, exploring the molecular changes that occur as we age. Among these, NAD+ plays a crucial role. This important molecule is at the heart of the NADIS consortium’s research, being connected to all 12 established hallmarks of aging, such as mitochondrial dysfunction and cellular senescence... Second NADIS update from the NAD Metabolism and Signaling FASEB Conference in Lisbon! During the conference NADIS DC Thomas Brochard presented a poster titled: “Fluxomics Analysis of NAD Metabolites in Human Adipocyte Spheroids”. Results? The isotopic tracing approach successfully tracks NAD+ metabolism, offering potential applications in understanding and modulating NAD+ in obesity-related conditions! 🔎 https://lnkd.in/d3k4m35A

Raúl Pérez Mato, NADIS doctoral candidate at the University of Genova, shared his work at the NAD Metabolism and Signaling FASEB Conference in Lisbon. With a poster presentation called “The TRPM2 ion channel regulates the browning process in human adipose tissue” he showed his latest results from this project that studies TRPM2, a calcium channel gated by the NAD+ derived second messenger ADPR. TRPM2 plays an important role in brown adipose tissue activation and white adipose tissue browning, and pharmacological activation of it could present potential benefits for the treatment of obesity. With this poster, Raúl was awarded with one of the five poster awards at the conference! https://lnkd.in/dsz5qb5S

The Conference on NAD Metabolism and Signalling (Lisbon, Portugal) was a success! New opportunities of collaboration for all the participants! Thanks to my co-organizers Andreas Guse (University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf), Lulu Cambronne (the University of Texas at Austin) and Michael Hottiger (University of Zurich). A special thank to Eija Pirinen, a NADIS member, for her participation to the panel on clinical trials and to two NADIS DCs, Raúl Pérez Mato and Thomas Brochard, for their contribution to this exciting meeting! One day, you might need help going to the bathroom, be unable to tie your own shoes, and struggle to follow a simple conversation. In other words, lose your autonomy and become dependent on other people to take care of you. Notably, this only happens to the lucky ones... 👴 👵 Kasper T. 🔍 NAD⁺ Precursors: Proceed with Caution NAD⁺ precursor supplements, like NMN and NR, have been gaining popularity, touted for their potential health benefits. However, recent findings reveal some critical issues with the quality and stability of these supplements, as well as a lack of robust human data. Before jumping on the bandwagon, it's essential to be aware of these concerns. For a deeper dive into this topic, check out this insightful article by NADIS DC5 Thomas Brochard: https://lnkd.in/dFGwpsqP #NAD+ #NAD_precursors #NADIS
