We value quality at Nemag. But even we were pleasantly surprised. A new nemaX grab transferred 6 million tonnes of iron ore in its first year, without any major maintenance. You don’t want any production downtime. Especially if you’re on a transhipment crane in West Africa. Breakdowns are tedious and expensive. The nemaX grab only has two sheaves and one hinge, unlike a clamshell grab with eight sheaves and eight hinges. Fewer parts and easier access contribute to faster and more efficient maintenance processes. So in addition to the productivity increase, the grab is also safer, easier and faster to maintain. • Three common challenges in transshipment from an operational, technical and financial perspective: 🚢 Operational challenge: “How do I avoid congestion and demurrage costs of ingoing and outgoing vessels due to slippage in ETA & ETD, availability of the installation due to bad sea state and other meteorological conditions?” Technical challenge: “How do I keep my installation going at open sea under severe conditions and without too much technical support?” Financial challenge: “As the handling rates are under pressure due to overcapacity in the dry bulk market, how do I increase efficiency and lower costs per tonne of transshipment?” These three challenges highlight the importance of strategic planning, technological adoption, and skill enhancement to ensure efficient and cost-effective transshipment operations. • Are you choosing the right grab for unloading your iron ore? 🛠️ The appropriate grab selection depends on the type of crane, its safe working load, the bulk material characteristics, and the type of operation. Each grab type offers distinct advantages in terms of weight handling, speed, and operational efficiency. • NemaX Grab: Known for its lightweight and fast opening and closing speed, it outmatches the clamshell grab in these aspects, enabling it to handle more tons per cycle and more cycles per hour. This efficiency makes it the most productive choice for iron ore handling. • Clamshell Grab: The clamshell grab is a very productive grab for a wide variety of your bulk materials. Especially for loads lighter than 30 tons and it can be made more environmentally friendly by enclosing the shells. • Scissors Grab: Above a safe working load of 35 tons, it’s well known for its durability and suitability for dense or compact materials, because of its heavy weight, which results in better penetration. The Scissors grab has a high average productivity thanks to its fast opening and closing mechanism and short cycle times. It also performs excellently on sloping surfaces, reducing your need for trimming equipment and staff. Conclusion: Generally speaking, for loads starting from 25 tons and upwards, the NemaX emerges as the best option, offering unmatched performance and suitability for a wide range of iron ore handling requirements. https://hubs.ly/Q02ZmhCX0 #Nemag #ironore #drybulk #bulkhandling #grab

  • Electric arc furnace vs blast furnace 🥊 When comparing the traditional blast furnace versus the electric arc furnace, there are a few differences: • Energy consumption: EAFs generally consume less energy than blast furnaces because they can be activated and deactivated quickly, reducing idle times and energy wastage. This ability is particularly beneficial in contexts where energy costs fluctuate significantly. • CO2-emissions: In terms of emissions, EAFs have a lower carbon footprint. Since they use electricity, their direct emissions can be near zero, especially if the electricity is sourced from renewable energy. In contrast, blast furnaces rely on coal, leading to higher carbon dioxide and other pollutant emissions. • Production time: EAFs also have an advantage in production time. They can start production faster and adjust more rapidly to market demands compared to the long and rigid cycles of blast furnaces. • Economic consideration: The cost of electricity for operating an EAF can vary significantly depending on several factors, such as the local cost of electricity, the scale of operations, the efficiency of the furnace, and the production process used. Do you want to read more about the economic considerations, with estimated figures to keep in mind?
