NFP invited Bine Liem, who participated in the 11th IPBES plenary as part of the Dutch delegation, to reflect on the connections between #IPBES and #foodsystems from a youth perspective. With the IPBES NEXUS and Transformative Change Assessment reports now out, the urgent need for action has never been clearer. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸? These questions were asked to a panel of experts by the Standing Committee on Foreign Trade and Development Aid at the Dutch House of Representatives on Wednesday February 5th. The discussion was initiated by amongst others, the call from NFP and 95 stakeholders to invest more in international food security. The following reflections are by NFP Executive Director Ivo Demmers: My contribution focused on the power of long-term and equal partnerships. One could think of your favorite dish, which only tastes good when all the ingredients are blended in at the right order and balance. Cooperation also entails organizing co- and countervailing power and thereby contributing to solutions for context-specific questions such as: shock-resistant production, healthy food, employment or reducing food waste. This requires all parties involved: farmers and their organizations, SMEs, educational and knowledge institutions, social organizations, businesses and governments. The Members of Parliament asked good questions, showing their interest and involvement in the subjects. In addition to NFP, IPES-Food, IDH, World Benchmarking Alliance, Wageningen University & Research, CGIAR-Brookings were represented in the discussion. The following topics, and more, were discussed: ✅ Strengthening the resilience of local food systems in low- and middle-income countries and supporting the development of local crops. ✅ The importance of more regulation from the Netherlands and the EU, such as trade and labor standards and CSR policies.. ✅ Interaction between (regional) trade and local production is needed for a (year-round) available, affordable and balanced diet for everyone. ✅ The importance of cooperation for Global Food Security. The Netherlands should establish and maintain partnerships at national and local levels. ✅ Dutch knowledge and expertise can contribute to solving local challenges and offers opportunities for the business community. NFP continues to contribute by facilitating dialogue and cooperation between diamond stakeholders. 2 topics worth pursuing in a follow-up: ➡️ Opportunities for supporting the development of smallholder farmers and SMEs . ➡️ Is there a discrepancy between sustainable production and production increase? https://lnkd.in/ePxP5yWK

Yesterday, NewForesight and Netherlands Food Partnership hosted a new years drinks in our street, and I’m thrilled to share that it was a huge success! With 15 organizations and over 70 attendees, the energy was incredible. The theme, “Setting Up New Connections,” truly came to life as neighbors, local organizations, and friends came together to exchange ideas, stories, and laughter. A big thank you to everyone who participated, supported, and contributed to making this event unforgettable. These kinds of gatherings remind us how powerful community is when we come together. Looking forward to many more opportunities to connect and collaborate! Ivo Demmers, Suzan van Hees, Brigid Slee, Lobna M. Earlier this week, we joined forces with Clim-Eat during an official THINK-Table event in Utrecht, Netherlands, to address a pressing global challenge: methane emissions. Together with experts from public and private sectors, we explored key knowledge gaps and identified actionable opportunities to make a real impact on methane reduction. The discussions were forward-looking, and grounded in the urgency of the journey toward COP30 in Brazil next year 🎥 Watch the video below to hear insights from Gregory Kohler, Şeyda Özkan, Ward Mosmuller, Patty Fong, Michael Kwame Nkonu, Saskia Visser, and Dr Dhanush Dinesh on unlocking solutions for meaningful methane action. 🔗 Dive deeper into the event and its outcomes: https://lnkd.in/e58sxSci #FoodSystems #COP30
