The 21st members only ammonia energy association (AEA)-conference is over.
What a nice event about all aspects concerning the introduction of clean ammonia in the worldwide energy transition.
Some 300 representatives of our 275+ membership joined in New Orleans , USA, learning about the new developments in technology , safety , certification , innovations and market applications.
Well, the N2O emissions for engines have been solved and really 0 or very close to 1 ppm nox /n2o engines have been presented to the audience; Ready to deploy …now!
Further many vessels for various freights are ammonia ready or even going to sail with ammonia ( safety issues on ships solved)
Further, enough clean ammonia plants are at fid or become soon Fid , matching demand in 2030 for shipping only, especially now all related alternative fuels look becoming much more expensive in usd/ton energy equivalent ( carbon free) or by a penalty for emissions of CO2.
And last but not least tests with ammonia in power generation equipment shows a potential market ready to start soon as well
The cracking technologies reach maturity as well where at least 3 companies can supply crackers up to 8000 ton per day ? Not perverse !!) .all doable at 95-96% energy efficiency ; and thus much better than the hydrogen sector tends to say
Also smaller crackers, modular and cheap , are available now
So , in transport of energy, from for instance Chile or morroco, 95 % of the electric energy put into ammonia will be returned back for use in Netherlands , or where it is cracked back . On top of that transport losses /costs have to be added but on a apple/apple comparison , electrons are by far cheaper transported and recuperated than any other renewable energy carrier
So we are underway to nett-zero and offtake agreements will now be easier when shipping companies ( presenting here) are outspoken to go for ammonia
Now it is time to start acting together .
I feel confident this will now be the case !
Looking forward to hear even more positive news in our 8th NH3event in Rotterdam next year on 5 and 6 June!!
