I’m excited to share that our paper “The SEPA Payment Account Access scheme is driving ‘open banking’ in the EU beyond the revised Payments Services Directive (PSD2)” – co-authored together with Christophe Godefroi (European Payments Council (EPC)) – is published in the Journal of Payments Strategy & Systems (JPSS). The #SPAA scheme, developed under the umbrella of the European Payments Council, enables ‘premium’ payment services beyond the regulatory requirements of PSD2 and supports a wide variety of payments use cases, including online and in-store payments. It aims to drive open banking in the European Union (EU) in a way that unlocks and creates value while allowing for a fair distribution of value and risk between participants. The origins of SPAA, associated benefits and challenges, as well as the related regulatory context are covered in the paper. 🔍 Key takeaways SPAA: ✅ Introduces premium open banking services ✅ Unlocks new business models with fair value distribution ✅ Supports payment innovation across the EU ✅ Facilitates pan-European reach and harmonisation ✅ Underpins EU’s objective of payments sovereignty #OpenBanking #Payments Read the full article in the attachment.
