The new EU Batteries Regulation advances a circular economy for batteries, setting targets for recycling efficiency, material recovery, and recycled content. Key provisions include: 🔄 Removable Batteries: Vehicles and electronics must have removable batteries to extend product life and ease recycling. 📱 Battery Passport: Starting in 2027, all EV and industrial batteries over 2 kWh sold in the EU will require a unique QR code for easier recycling. While the full benefits won’t be seen until 2035, there is a critical need to advance technology-based condition testing and measurement techniques to help recyclers manage batteries without passports.
