First foundations for RWE ’s offshore wind farm Thor in the Danish North Sea have arrived at Buss Terminal Eemshaven BV. The first batch of eight monopile foundations for the wind turbines were offloaded and stored at our base port of Eemshaven in the Netherlands. Buss Terminal Eemshaven BV , part of Hamburg-based Buss Ports , provides storage space, heavy unloading equipment and operators at the port, whilst also managing the port logistics. In spring 2025, foundations will be shipped from the Dutch heavy-lift terminal in Eemshaven to the Thor construction site in the Danish North Sea, located approximately 22 kilometres off the west coast of Jutland. With more than one gigawatt of capacity, Thor offshore wind farm will be capable of producing enough green electricity to supply the equivalent of more than one million Danish households. The wind farm is expected to be fully operational no later than end of 2027. The load-in process of the first eight monopiles was completed within a week at the terminal, handled by an experienced team of engineers and stevedores operating SPMTs and special equipment to transport and ensure the storage of the foundations onto specially constructed dunes. Preparations for Denmark’s to date largest offshore wind project are in full swing! The first eight monopile foundations for our wind farm Thor have arrived at the Buss Terminal Eemshaven in the Netherlands. With lengths up to 100 meters and a weight of 1,500 tonnes, each foundation is as heavy as 1,000 small cars. The 72 foundations will find their new home in the Danish North Sea, approximately 22 kilometers off the coast of Jutland. Installation is expected to start in spring 2025. Once fully commissioned in 2027, Thor will have a capacity of more than 1 GW and will be capable of providing electricity for the equivalent of more than a million Danish households.

Buss Terminal Eemshaven Completes Load-Out for Germany’s Largest Offshore Wind Park in the North Sea “He Dreiht” BTE successfully completed the handling and load-out of monopiles and transition pieces for the EnBW offshore wind farm “He Dreiht”, contracted by Heerema Marine Contractors. Spanning from January until August 24 this project marks a significant achievement for our team and the broader renewable energy sector. He Dreiht, meaning "He turns” is a pioneering project that will feature 64 wind turbines and is going to have an installed capacity of 960 MW. Situated approx. 90 kilometers northwest of the island of Borkum and 110 kilometers west of Helgoland, the wind farm will be a benchmark of the European energy transition and will be able to supply 1.1 million households with renewable energy when it’s connected to the grid at the end of 2025. Serving as Base Port for He Dreiht, BTE played a key role in the project’s success. BTE was the center for unloading massive monopiles, with a diameter of 9,2 meters, lengths of up to seventy-one meters and a massive weight up to 1.350 tons. The 35-metre-high transition pieces bring 640 tons to the scales. The terminal also managed the storage of these components, and their subsequent loading onto seagoing barges for installation. Beyond the terminal logistics in Eemshaven, the engineering and project management aspects associated with the logistics scope of this project, were covered by the Team of Buss Offshore Solutions in Hamburg. Buss’ partner Sarens provided an impressive line-up of flexible and independent services and solutions in completing the challenging project for the Transition Piece manufacturer Smulders, the monopile manufacturer Steelwind Nordenham GmbH and the Transport & Installation party Heerema Marine Contractors. The equipment comprised three cranes of the highest capacity class (CC8800/1, CC9800 and LR12500-1) lined up at BTE’s quay side. Less visible, but no less important, were over 100 SPMT axle lines that transported the components with precision and care. "The remarkable success of this project roots in the team spirit at Buss Terminal Eemshaven," Haaye-Paul Ravensbergen states. "On site, there was a strong hands-on mentality that went far beyond the contractually defined areas of responsibility. No matter which company the individual team members and employees belonged to. Everyone worked hand in hand to achieve the common goal." For Buss Ports, this major project is another milestone in positioning its expertise in port logistics and demonstrating the capabilities of the 300,000 m² heavy lift terminal BTE with its state-of-the-art infrastructure. The successful implementation of the project will further contribute to Europe's ambitious journey towards a sustainable future. 📷 Magnus Reinke (1) & Weltenangler (2,3) Marc Wegman Haaye-Paul Ravensbergen Niklas Winkelbach Julina Hansen Claas Pinkenburg Morten Lund Stephan Kühn Martin Claußen Thierry Roossien
