From the Netherlands to West Africa: The future of coastal protection lies in nature. That's why last week, Partners for Water organised a study tour on NBS for the West Africa Coastal Areas Management Programme (WACA). 💧🌍 💬 "During this 5-day trip we exchanged knowledge and experiences while touring through the Netherlands to visit various sites with Nature-based coastal solutions," explains Partners for Water's programme manager Liliane Geerling. "While discussing the barriers and enablers to implementing NBS projects in West African countries, we explored how to harmonise institutional frameworks and incorporate local and indigenous knowledge. Technical discussions came up as well, focusing on critical coastal engineering aspects - from optimal sand sourcing and understanding regional sand flows to selecting effective vegetation for stabilisation and developing sustainable maintenance strategies." We want to thank all the participants. Together, we made a valuable effort toward knowledge exchange and mainstreaming NBS for coastal protection. 🙏 https://ap.lc/MlWZl This trip was organised by Partners for Water in cooperation with The World Bank, Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) | Partner in Sustainable Development, EcoShape and NL2120 Liliane Geerling and Annelies Kannekens #partnersforwater #RVO #WACA #ecoshape #NL2120 #naturebasedsolutions #sand #coastalmanagement #NBS #watersecurity #SDG6 #knowledgeexchange #knowledgesharing #cocreation #watermanagement
