🚀 Accelerating the Energy Transition in the Netherlands: North Sea Canal regional network for CO₂ transport gains national priority. This year, many of us faced significant setbacks in realizing new projects and infrastructure critical to the energy transition and a circular economy. But with the end of the year approaching🎄, let’s try to shift to a positive mindset and focus on the progress we’ve made. This week, the Dutch government published the progress of all major energy infrastructure projects across the country. 🔑 What’s Happening Across the Energy Landscape in NL? -Wind energy integration: Offshore wind farms like Hollandse Kust (west) Alpha are progressing with their connection to the grid, with more projects underway. -Hydrogen infrastructure: Preparations are advancing nationwide, with preferred routes selected for key areas. -CO₂ storage: The Porthos project has begun construction, and others, like Aramis, are moving forward. -Electric grid expansion: From Brabant to Delfzijl, preparations started for scaling up to meet growing energy demands. 🌟 The Dutch government, through initiatives like the Multi-Year Program Infrastructure Energy and Climate (MIEK), is prioritizing and streamlining these projects, ensuring faster permitting and robust support for execution. Among the highlights of these new MIEK projects is the regional network for the storage, transport, and deployment of CO₂ in the North Sea Canal area, a flagship initiative for the Port of Amsterdam region. 🌍 By facilitating CO₂ transport and storage, it supports greener industrial operations and contributes to achieving climate targets. This recognition is a good step forward! 📌 Read more on the progress of Dutch energy infrastructure: https://lnkd.in/ebdTnjsj 📌 Read more about the recently announced CO2 corridor with Norway https://lnkd.in/eWMTKt3i

Head of Partnerships Benelux @Ukraine Facility Platform | Driving Collaboration and Sustainability

As many of you know Ukraine's energy infrastructure has suffered significant damage due to ongoing war that russia started, with more than half of its pre-war capacity destroyed. Restoring and modernizing this infrastructure is essential for ensuring a resilient and sustainable energy future for the country. Originally I don't come from an energy background. However, recent events have made it clear to all of us why energy is crucial for Ukraine's recovery and security. Recognizing this importance, Ukraine Facility Platform together with OpenDoorUkraine.NL recently organized the "Decentralized Energy Solutions for Ukraine Security" event at the The Clingendael Institute at the Hague. The event brought together a lot of main players of Ukraine and Dutch energy players - to start the discussion, to see the opportunities at this challenging time and start the collaborations. During this international conference UAFP introduced the Collaborative Effort Toolkit, designed to foster partnerships between communities, businesses, and international stakeholders for developing decentralized energy projects (please see the toolkit here https://lnkd.in/ecKRquFq). Our approach aligns the interests of multiple stakeholders: ⚡ Communities modernize infrastructure and transition to sustainable energy ⚡International financial institutions access green investment opportunities ⚡Private businesses gain new technologies and efficient financing ⚡The EU strengthens energy security and advances the Ukraine Plan ⚡Ukrainian government increases energy capacity and fulfills strategic goals We're now focusing on an operational algorithm to support project development and unlock financing, bridging the gap between ideas and implementation. Thank to all the speakers that made this event incredibly insightful: Andre Faaij kees klompenhouwer Erica Schouten Marcus Lippold Olena Zerkal Roman Vybranovskyi Andriy Konechenkov Marinus Tabak Louise van Schaik Johan Vermij Dmitry Motuzko Oleksandr Bondarenko and guests. Thanks for the amazing team Sofiia Shevchuk Niels Drost Erika Koehler Rits Dijkstra Lera Manzovitova. #UkraineRecovery #DecentralizedEnergy #Collaboration

A good report but it shows why traceability systems and auditors are needed rather than not. Physical indicators can show the % biocontent and the type of pure vegetable oil used, but not when oils, fats, and wastes are mixed — a standard practice, also supported by mass balance principles in the oils and fats and biofuels supply chain. In this report Palm fatty acid profiles are identical to UCO derived from palm (SE Asian cuisine) and POME. Waste oils are often mixtures from their birth e.g., cooking lard + sunflower + olive oil in the same barrel at a restaurant or when a driver collects from a thai restaurant, then fried chicken, fish and chip, indian restaurants on the same collection route. Oils and fats are further blended at every stage of the supply chain to control quality at biofuel production and in downstream trading to optimise for cold/hot weather markets. If there is a marker that shows a significant amount of cooking it will be welcomed. Then we need one for mill effluent and another for category 1 fats, low carbon intensity and low ILUC etc.

📢 ICYMI! GCMD has recently released a report titled "Rapid forensic analysis of FAME-based biofuels: Potential use of its fingerprint as a fraud detection tool.” This report introduces a new technique that creates a fingerprint for Fatty Acid Methyl Esters (FAME). By identifying their feedstock origins, this fingerprinting technique can potentially be used as a tool to detect fraud in marine fuel supply chains and ensure biofuel authenticity. If you haven’t read it yet, here’s a TL;DR of the report in the infographic below. 📄 For the full report, download it here: https://lnkd.in/gRHF9vZE
