    The #NeuroAI summerschool was a great succes (organised by Iris Groen and me). 120 graduate students and PhDs worked for 8 weeks on lectures and tutorial covering #DNNs, #Encoding, #RepresentationalGeometry, modelling of neural pathways, #LLMs as models for cognition, #ReinforcementLearning, and #CognitiveMaps. The summerschool ended with a dinner in #Entrepot (see image below). We will use the feedback, and organize an updated version in #2025, but with an even tighter integration between labs and lectures, a more substantial project, and focussing on a smaller group of 36 PhD students. #AmsterdamAI

Afgelopen dagen hebben we met een mobiele EEG en eye tracker van PsyPhy het eerste deel van een driedelig onderzoek uitgevoerd. Het mooie hieraan is dat we hiermee een live omgeving konden testen met apparatuur van het hoogste niveau. Hierbij meten we hoe onze proefpersonen reageren op verschillende stimuli. Door de mobiele EEG waarbij de proefpersoon vrijuit kan bewegen, in combinatie met de te tracker waarmee we zien waar hij naar kijkt, kunnen we een veel natuurlijkere omgeving meten. En dat zonder belemmeringen voor je proefpersoon. Absoluut geweldig! 𝙒𝙖𝙖𝙧 𝙠𝙖𝙣 𝙟𝙚 𝙙𝙖𝙩 𝙣𝙤𝙜 𝙢𝙚𝙚𝙧 𝙜𝙚𝙗𝙧𝙪𝙞𝙠𝙚𝙣? Nou, overal dus! Er is geen limiet meer. Ik geef je wat voorbeelden: 🛒 Je exacte ervaring in een winkel of POS ervaring 🎢 Je ervaring van een attractie of show 🏫 Je ervaring in een klaslokaal, tijdens een les 🏥 Je ervaring in wachtkamers bij ziekenhuizen, tandarts en nog veel meer Je ziet het! Eindeloos veel mogelijkheden! 𝙈𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙞𝙟𝙣, 𝙬𝙖𝙩 𝙜𝙖𝙖𝙣 𝙟𝙪𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙚 𝙣𝙪 𝙙𝙤𝙚𝙣? De resultaten van deze studie gaan we gebruiken in een vervolgstudie. Een EEG meet geen emoties. Dat gaan we met een fMRI doen. We weten dat exact hoe je brein reageert en welke emoties daarbij horen. En dan zijn we er nog niet! In deel 3 van het onderzoek gaan we met de resultaten, data profiling toepassen. Zo weten onze (niet overdreven) super gave klant hoe zij hun doelgroepen optimaal kunnen bereiken. Met marketing, in sales en nog veel meer. 𝙒𝙖𝙣𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙧 𝙝𝙤𝙤𝙧 𝙞𝙠 𝙙𝙚𝙯𝙚 𝙪𝙞𝙩𝙨𝙡𝙖𝙜𝙚𝙣? Tromgeroffel… Daar moet je nog even op wachten. Op een dag sla je een krant open, open je een nieuws app of zie jij een programma op tv waar dit besproken gaat worden. Hoe gaaf is dat dan! En precies dat is het moment dat ik jullie daar zeker meer over ga vertellen. 𝙒𝙞𝙡 𝙟𝙚 𝙖𝙡𝙨 𝙚𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙩𝙚 𝙤𝙥 𝙙𝙚 𝙝𝙤𝙤𝙜𝙩𝙚 𝙯𝙞𝙟𝙣? Volg mij! Ik ga dat natuurlijk van de daken schreeuwen.     🧠 Advancing BCI Research: Insights from a Pioneering EEG Study 🚀 A transformative study in EEG-based Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCIs) introduces the 'Path Signature' method paired with the 'Riemannian Classifier', showing remarkable potential in enhancing #BCI robustness, especially in noisy and low-quality data environments.   The Path Signature method, derived from rough path theory, effectively handles multichannel EEG time series by computing iterated integrals. This makes it highly suitable for EEG data, which is often prone to environmental disturbances. The Riemannian Classifier complements this by utilising matrix geometry for efficient data classification, making this combination a powerful tool in EEG analysis.   📊 The study's results demonstrate that the signature method outperforms classical methods in terms of robustness to inter-user variability. This is particularly notable in noisy and low-quality data scenarios, highlighting its potential to overcome traditional EEG-based BCI challenges.
