Did you know that #Colombia #exports over 11,600 tons of cut #flowers to the #Netherlands every year? 🌸 🌸 We recently completed a study on the use of #plastics in the #floriculture sector in Colombia. We estimated the amount of #singleuse plastic that is exported - alongside the flowers - to the Netherlands, and we identified areas of #improvement, to contribute even further to the #sustainability of the sector. Give a look at the report below and contact Natalia Herrera or Susanna Cocchini if you are interested in knowing more or developing initiatives to reduce the use of plastics in the floriculture sector! Special thanks to Netherlands Enterprise Agency and the Agricultural Department of the Dutch Embassy in Bogotá for financing and supporting this study. An exciting milestone in the development of Ethiopia's seed sector: last Friday marked the launch of the Ethiopian Seed Partnership! 🎉 The launch was opened with an inspiring speech from HE Dr. Sofiya Kassa, State Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture, followed by keynotes from Paula Schindeler, Head of Development Cooperation of the Dutch Embassy in Ethiopia, and Beatrice Neri, representative of the European Union's delegation to Ethiopia, concluded with the official launch of the partnership by HE Ambassador Deriba Kuma, Director General of the Ethiopian Agricultural Authority. Funded by the EU and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Ethiopia, the partnership aims to increase small-scale food producers’ food security, nutrition, and resilience to shocks and stresses by improving access to quality seed of adapted varieties. Activities will be implemented by a consortium of partners, led by Wageningen Centre for Development Innovation of Wageningen University & Research and implemented by Stichting Wageningen Research in Ethiopia, Resilience BV, the Ethiopian Seed Association, Plantum and Mercy Corps. The partnership is supported by the Ethiopian Ministry of Agriculture and SeedNL. ESP builds upon the Ethiopia-Netherlands Seed Partnership by reaching beyond its original mandate to enable the business of the private sector and enters new areas affected by drought and conflict. Using the strong track record of Mercy Corps, the partnership will strengthen humanitarian responses to seed insecurity, build capacities in farmer- & community-based seed systems and rehabilitate seed service delivery where it has collapsed. We congratulate all partners on this wonderful achievement and wish you all the best in your efforts to transform Ethiopia's seed sector! 🌟

🌍💧 A 2022 Nature Science e-Magazine (https://lnkd.in/eknpgjM4) article reveals that 30% of the population in ASEAN relies on self-supply for water—sourcing it from the ground, rivers, or rain. In rural Vietnam, this number jumps to 63%! Unfortunately, these sources are often unsafe to drink and are climate change makes water quality worse. Household water filters are a crucial solution to provide safe drinking water to these communities. Resilience supported the development of the Nazava Water Filters 💦 B Corp , an innovative water filter, and we've already sold 300,000 units globally. If you're in Vietnam, don’t miss the chance to learn more about how we can help bring safe water to millions at this exhibition. See you there! 💧 #WaterForAll #SafeDrinkingWater #Nazava #Innovation #Sustainability #ClimateResilience

On September 16 and 17, 2024, Zuqualla Horti PLC in Koka, hosted two Strawberry Demonstration Days, showcasing an advanced soft fruit production system. The event showcased an advanced system of protected cultivation by Meteor Systems’ and new strawberry varieties by Flevoplant B.V.. The project is supported by Netherlands Enterprise Agency and coordinated by Resilience and aims to show more productive and sustainable strawberry cultivation. Attendees included representatives from the Netherlands Embassy in Ethiopia, horticulture companies and government officials. The newly introduced technologies offer numerous benefits over open-field cultivation, including improved labor conditions for workers, reduced use of pesticides and fertilizers, and higher crop density, all leading to the potential to expand Ethiopia's soft fruit exports. 🌍💧 Tackling Excess Fluoride in Kenya's Drinking #Water! 💧🌍 Did you know? Consuming too much fluoride can lead to serious health issues. In #Kenya's Rift Valley, #fluoride levels exceed World Health Organization's safe limit by 2-6 times, impacting over 12.7 million people 😧. This leads to dental and skeletal #fluorosis, causing exclusion from society and jobs. Our team at Resilience BV, alongside TU Delft | Water for Impact, Nazava Water Filters 💦 B Corp, and Harbauer Kenya Water Solutions Ltd, is on a mission to change this! 🌱💪 Guus Wiersma from TU Delft visited Resilience's Young Expert Marleen Ophorst to test water samples and explore the integration of HAPaqua into Nazava water filters funded by the Partners for Water grant program. This solution could become the first affordable household filter to remove both fluoride and bacteria, transforming lives in Kenya and beyond! 🙌 Netherlands Enterprise Agency Young Expert Programmes Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Kenya Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken
Ever heard of something like ‘too much fluoride’? Well, when this naturally occurring mineral is consumed in too high quantities, it can cause significant health issues. In Kenya, particularly in the Rift Valley, fluoride concentrations often exceed the World Health Organization’s recommended limit of 1.5 mg/L by 2 to 6 times. This situation affects approximately 12.7 million people in this region alone, leading to widespread dental and skeletal fluorosis, which is often the cause of societal and job exclusion. Zooming out, over 200 million people are affected globally. To combat this problem, there is an urgent need to create affordable technologies at the household level to purify water contaminated with microbes and fluoride. A couple of weeks ago, Guus Wiersma from our TU Delft | Water for Impact team and Marleen Ophorst from Nazava Water Filters 💦 B Corp went to Kenya for a Partners for Water project to research a potential solution: incorporating a fluoride removal component, such as HAPaqua, into the existing household Nazava Water Filter. During their trip, Guus and Marleen collected water samples to see how much fluoride is actually in the water, and thus how much needs to be removed. Their research was part of a feasibility study they are conducting together with Resilience BV, Nazava Water Filters 💦 B Corp, Delft University of Technology and Harbauer Kenya Water Solutions Ltd, to see if this innovation could make the water filters the first at the household level capable of removing both fluoride and bacteria from drinking water. As both an affordable and practical solution, this could ensure access to safe and clean drinking water and a significant improvement in the quality of life for millions of people in Kenya and beyond. #drinkingwater #nazava #hapaqua #waterfilter #fluoride #kenya #waterforimpact
