▪️ Visiting Mexico City Art Week, Biennial of the Americas The Rijksakademie community extends far beyond Amsterdam, with alums and international networks spanning the globe. During Mexico City Art Week, Emily Pethick (General Director) and María Virto Marcilla (Director of Development) explored the artistic landscape, and focused on strengthening existing relationships and building new connections with artists, cultural professionals and art lovers who are local or living and working in regions or countries adjacent to Mexico City. Additionally, they presented the Rijksakademie work at SOMA a residency programme for Mexican artists. These encounters play a vital role in shaping a future where the Rijksakademie community remains diverse and international, attracting artists, advisors, and cultural practitioners from a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives. As Rijksakademie alums have a strong presence in Mexico, they visited the studios of a.o. Carlos Amorales (RA 96/97) and Mauricio Limón de León (RA 16/17), and two projects by Daniel Aguilar Ruvalcaba (RA 20/22) engaging in conversations about their current work and practices. Congratulations to resident Eniwaye Oluwaseyi for winning the Royal Award for Modern Painting! And congratulations to alums Frederique Jonker (RA 16/17) and Josse Pyl (RA 17/18), for being amongst the 15 nominees for the Royal Award for Modern Painting 2025. All nominees were recognised for their innovative approaches to the medium, demonstrating the breadth and diversity of contemporary painting today. The prize was awarded by His Majesty King Willem-Alexander to Eniwaye and the other winners, Taqwa Ali en Lieve Hakkers. Alum Mounira Al Solh (RA 07/08) served as member of this year’s jury. The exhibition offers a unique glimpse into the future of Dutch painting—an exploration of themes ranging from the personal to the political, from the abstract to the figurative. The event enables the artists to share their work with wider audiences in ambitious and imaginative ways and offers visitors the chance to engage with the diverse range of practices and ideas that the residents have developed over the course of the year. Open Studios 2025 coincides with Amsterdam Art Week and is open to the public from Thursday 22 May until Sunday 25 May. Yesterday, we welcomed the tech fellows 2025 in the building. Together with Dmytro Tentiuk – who started in September 2024 and will stay until after the summer – we have five tech fellows this year, connected to the following workshops: 1. Harriet Rose Morley (metal workshop) 2. Viki Nagy (ceramics workshop) 3. Alex Walker (print lab) 4. Nadine Ghandour (library/collection) 5. Dmytro Tentiuk (media lab) In the coming period we will introduce each of them on our social channels. The Tech Fellowship Programme is a trainee/research programme for artists/designers interested in becoming a technical specialist alongside their art practice. This is the fourth edition of the programme, which spans from January until December 2025. We zoeken een handige organisator, communicator en improvisator. Je bent hands-on ingesteld en stressbestendig. Je werkt samen met een andere medewerker support. Thank you for joining the book fair! 📚Last Saturday, the Rijksakademie transformed into a vibrant hub of artistic publishing for Breaking even! Art Book Fair. Over 40 residents, alumni, and special guests presented and sold their publications, prints, posters, records, and more. The day was a full programme of talks, performances, workshops, and sound-based presentations, fostering a space for exchange and exploration. Initiated by alumna Reyhan Làl, Breaking even! brought attention to the often precarious yet dynamic reality of independent publishing. The fair provided a space to meet, share, and collectively reflect on sustainable futures for artistic production. During Working Practice, the 2024 Tech Fellows, Bradley Hamlin, Chad Cordeiro, Hannah Rose Whittle, and Mauricio van der Maesen de Sombreff, presented their work. Through presentations and panel discussions, the fellows and guest speakers explored the vital role of technical specialists in supporting artistic practices, knowledge sharing, and sustainable innovation.    The Tech Fellowship Programme contributes to the Rijksakademie’s ongoing commitment to fostering technical research and innovation, creating new tools, methods, and sustainable solutions that benefit artists both within and beyond our community.    The programme brought together experts Giulia Bellinetti and Bruno Alves de Almeida (Jan van Eyck Academie), Rosa de Graaf (Kunstinstituut Melly), Aria Spinelli, PhD (Amsterdam University), and Harriet Rose Morley (Platform BK), who reflected on the intersections between craft-based practices, open-source knowledge, and environmental responsibility, alongside our tech fellows and Rijksakademie technical specialists: specialist Stephan Kuderna, media specialists Kees Reedijk and José Miguel Biscaya, and ceramics specialist Marianne Peijnenburg.    We thank all participants, guest speakers, and visitors for their contributions to this inspiring programme.    The Tech Fellowship Programme 2024 is made possible by the generous support of Gieskes-Strijbis Fonds, Rabobank Nederland, het Cultuurfonds, Stichting Stokroos, Stichting Van Achterberg-Domhof, and Pauwhof Fonds.   - To join future events of our public programme, visit: https://lnkd.in/e2wPJUka.  - For more information on the Tech Fellowship Programme, visit: https://lnkd.in/eFd9c5iZ
