A year and a half after we founded SafeDrivePod (producttype SafeDriveFocus) with the goal to solve the problem of distracted driving due to smartphone use, I read an interesting article in Time magazine. It is now almost 2025 and my question is, do we have as a society really made the progress we wanted in solving this problem and with significant results? Steve Casner's 2017 article in Time Magazine, "Why We Can't Stop Texting and Driving," explores the psychological and societal factors contributing to this risky behavior. He explains that our brains are drawn to immediate rewards, such as the dopamine hit from reading a text, even when aware of potential dangers. Casner also highlights how our overconfidence in multitasking abilities often leads to lapses in judgment. Mobility is constantly evolving, and the insurance market must evolve with it.   In an interesting talk we had with Thomas H.J. Rettenwander, Head of Affinity at wefox, we concluded that the landscape of mobility is shifting, especially for the younger generations who view car ownership, shared mobility and public transportation in a completely different light compared to their predecessors. Younger generations feel like the traditional car insurance model just doesn't quite fit with the way you live and drive, or travel in general. In other words: it's time to adapt.
