SeaCAT sailing to the Land of the Rising Sun ☀️ Our colleagues at Subsea Tech signed a sales agreement with a major geotechnical company in Japan for the supply of a SeaCAT USV equipped with multibeam, side scan, and sub-bottom profiling sonars, among other sensors. 🔊🌊 This is the first significant commercial result generated by the SeaClear 1.0 & 2.0 Projects 🌐, with a vessel directly benefiting from several features developed during the projects, such as the ROV Launching and Recovery System , motorized instrument wells , and tilting A-frame and bow thrusters. SeaClear2.0 General Assembly in Cyprus – Day 2🌍 🎥 Watch our short video! The #SeaClear2.0 team started the day at Larnaca Marina, visiting the "ZEST" vessel—a zero-emissions ship addressing decarbonization challenges in the Cypriot coastal fleet. Next, we headed to the CMMI - Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute, the host organization of the ZEST project, for a technical visit. Our following stop was the Environmental Fluid Mechanics Lab at the University of Cyprus (EFM-Lab University of Cyprus), where we met with Dr. Marina Neophytou, Lab Director and Professor of Environmental Engineering, to explore the lab’s setups with her team. We concluded the day with a walking tour of Nicosia’s Old City, led by archaeologist and art historian Anna Marangou. Robots for the Ocean. Water visibility and turbidity are two driving factors that render void the usage of underwater cameras. Sonar systems have shown great potential in solving the puzzle, but how does one implement a sonar-based workflow within a robotic solution?
