  • Did you know that organizations need to have an AI literacy program in place by February 2nd, 2025, according to the EU AI Act? 🇪🇺 ⚠️ We better get ready. The EU AI Act mandates that organizations operating in the European market ensure adequate AI literacy among employees involved in the use and deployment of AI systems. In layman’s terms, this means that organizations must ensure their staff is sufficiently educated in the operation and use of AI systems. This emphasis on education goes beyond regulatory alignment. 👩💻 It also helps mitigate risks such as unauthorized data exposure or biased outputs. For example, engineers who aren’t aware of security risks might accidentally share sensitive code with external AI systems, or HR staff using AI in hiring may overlook potential biases in the AI’s recommendations. As the EU AI Act’s February 2025 deadline approaches, taking a proactive approach to AI literacy and upskilling is essential for compliance and risk mitigation. How can your organization prepare for the upcoming AI literacy requirements? 🤷♂️ Recently, we released our AI readiness guide for organizations. This guide provides practical steps for leaders on AI governance, risk management, development, and security. Upskilling and establishing a learning organization is one of the key steps highlighted in our guide ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/eHBMzzA7 Of course, the EU AI Act encompasses more than just the adequate AI literacy requirement. For example –and also on February 2nd 2025– AI systems that pose unacceptable risks will be banned. The EU AI legislation is made applicable via a phased approach, with different regulatory requirements triggered at 6–12-month intervals from when the act entered into force. To help you understand what that means, we created a summary of the EU AI Act ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/ez76u6-f #AI #ArtificialIntelligence #AILiteracy #AILegislation #EUAIAct

  • AI's capacity to replicate human decision-making and problem-solving drives efficiency across industries, making it essential for businesses to remain competitive. As AI adoption increases, its impact will only become more profound. 👩💼🤖 However, it is a double-edged sword. There are risks involved such as: 🔵 Lack of AI understanding: Technical complexities, especially around data use, leave many businesses vulnerable to errors and security risks. 🟡 Cybersecurity concerns: 65% of business leaders are concerned about AI-related cybersecurity threats, with 64% uncertain about AI’s data protection capabilities. (Deloitte) 🔵 Transparency and accountability gaps: Many AI systems lack clarity in verifiability and accountability. It was predicted that 85% of AI projects in 2022 delivered flawed outcomes due to bias or mismanagement. (Gartner) 🟡 Misinformation threats: Over half of CEOs fear that generative AI could increase internal misinformation and biases within their organizations. (PwC) 🔵 Reputational Risks: 75% of Chief Risk Officers (CROs) worry about potential reputational damage from AI, especially generative AI. • Alan Turing (and our marketing department) weeps.

I love AI, I live AI, and this is a heartfelt warning. You wouldn't believe how easy you overlook AI mistakes and here's why Alan Turing is crying. When AI generates code or text, it can seem logical, accurate, and even compelling. This happens for a few reasons: 1️⃣  AI is trained to sound smart and confident, so we naturally trust its tone, which doesn’t always prompt us to question it. The technique to train AI to our liking is called RLHF, but that’s for another post. 2️⃣ The AI has also been trained to act agreeable. It aligns its answers with our questions, rarely challenging us with a “no.” This creates an illusion of understanding, leading us to trust it more readily. 3️⃣ AI builds on patterns from vast datasets. It combines these patterns to create content and because we are familiar with these patterns, the combination also feels familiar. Even if it's wrong. It gets the gist, but not the truth. Let me share a crazy story to illustrate this. We tried generating podcasts using the fantastic NotebookLM, based on the Software Improvement Group AI blogs. What we got was impressive—engaging, easy to listen to, and confidently delivered by virtual hosts. It all seemed spot-on. However, after a second listen, with an expert’s careful ear and some rewinding, cracks began to show. Serious ones. The podcast was giving companies incorrect advice on high-risk AI systems, despite the original blog being accurate. It "hallucinated" significantly—and the errors were subtle, almost invisible. Ironically, the AI even completely misunderstood the Turing Test! It claimed it is about distinguishing “real” from “mimicked” intelligence. This sounded plausible: we know the Turing Test relates to intelligence, and it’s also known as the “imitation game.” But the Turing Test is NOT to distinguish intelligence from imitation. If a machine can mimic human conversation convincingly, it passes the test. The same risks apply to AI-generated code, which might look fine because it combines things that “make sense,” but the devil is in the details. This is exactly what my children’s book warns against. Luna’s magic AI paintbrush paints beautiful scenes, but with serious mistakes that she doesn’t notice at first. The story ends well—Luna learns to use AI while staying attentive and alert. Be like Luna: embrace AI, stay vigilant, and help share this message Thank you for the inspiration, Caitlin Begg, Olivia Gambelin, Bessie Schenk and Wesley van Barlingen. #responsibleai #ai
