Over ons
Strange Strangers is a Dutch/Belgian collective founded by Danielle Huyghe and Alexandra Verschuuren in 2018. Their collective stems from a close friendship as high school students at de!Kunsthumaniora Hedendaagse Dans, in Antwerp, and interest in their different personalities. In 2020 they graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degrees in dance and choreography at ArtEZ Hogeschool voor de Kunsten, in Arnhem. They have worked with renowned choreographers and performed at various international festivals. In 2018, they created their first piece Under, stand where they collaborated with musicians and performed in Holland. In 2019, they decided to collaborate with a Spanish composer and musician based in Utrecht, Guillem Gongora Moral. He studied classical composition in Barcelona, focusing his master in HKU around the incorporation of electronics in his pieces, and won the 17th Joan Guinjoan international award for young composers. A year after, Gerard Sangrà joined the collective taking on the role of the manager. After achieving his BA Dance diploma at Codarts Rotterdam, he decided to study a master in Cultural Economics & Entrepreneurship at the Erasmus University Rotterdam. He was involved in several projects, such as De Studio Rotterdam, Stukafest Rotterdam, PRISM Rotterdam, and now Strange Strangers. They started off as residents at Dansateliers (NL) and performed during One Night’s Dance. Soon after they had performance and residency opportunities at CC De Warandepoort (BE), CC De Ververij (BE), Rietveld Theater (NL), Fameus/Kavka (BE), KunstZ (BE), Concordia Theater (NL), Festival 10 Sentidos (ES), DanzaTTack (ES), Masdanza (ES) and Auditorio de Tenerife (ES). They received the jury prize for best choreography in the 25Masdanza Choreography Contest 2020.
