We had a great team gathering yesterday to mark the opening of our new office in Amsterdam. It's a significant milestone for us - to see how far we've come in just over a year since establishing Sumitomo Heavy Industries (Europe) to represent Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd. in the region and support its nine core European subsidiaries, plus nearly 60 affiliated companies. As the team and business expand, so has our need for additional space after just a year. Unfortunately, our MD and SHI Executive Vice President, Shaun Dean, could not be with us physically. We've built a brilliant team of experts – some with strong links back to our subsidiaries – and it's that collaborative approach that's driving our growth. It's about creating synergies and opportunities between the businesses and highlighting SHI's important role economically and socially in Europe. Above all, we are committed to SHI's Purpose - Enhance society and those within it with compassion through our ownership and vision. It's front and centre for employees and guests to see when they arrive. We opened our European headquarters in Amsterdam, Netherlands, 12 months ago this month. As the business grows, representing SHI and supporting our subsidiaries in the region, so has our need for additional working space. Sumitomo Heavy Industries (Europe) is driving a strategic initiative to modernise HR processes across our European and wider operations. As our General Manager for HR, Joris Blommaerts, explains in his post, we've just expanded the rollout of our Workday implementation to our Chinese-based subsidiaries of Lafert Group and Invertek Drives. This rollout, spearheaded by SHI (Europe), will bring numerous benefits, including improved employee experience, enhanced reporting capabilities, and streamlined recruitment. It underscores the leadership role of SHI (Europe) in developing and deploying shared solutions that benefit our entire organisation. It has been nearly 12 months since Sumitomo Heavy Industries (Europe) HQ was established in Amsterdam. (Headquarters: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo, President & CEO: Shinji Shimomura, hereinafter referred to as "Sumitomo Heavy Industries") received the highest ranking of "Gold" in the PRIDE Index 2024, which evaluates LGBTQ+ policies in the workplace. The PRIDE Index was formulated in 2016 by work with Pride, an organization that supports LGBTQ+ sexual minorities to create a comfortable workplace that transcends the boundaries of companies and organizations, and is the first in Japan to evaluate* the efforts of companies and organizations to address LGBTQ+ and other issues in the workplace. We believe that diversity is an indispensable foundation for our growth, and we respect the individuality and attributes of each individual (age, nationality, origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, gender expression, disability, etc.) and strive to foster an organisational culture that allows each individual to maximize their abilities. In our LGBTQ+ initiatives, in addition to the development of the environment and systems, as well as employee education, we are also engaged in social contribution activities to promote social understanding.
