Expanding our impact: Sustainable Urban Delta becomes Greengrounds. Since 2014, we’ve been advocating a clear vision: “Bringing sustainable food production back to the city reshapes the future.” For the past decade, our Sustainable Urban Delta Foundation has been raising awareness and mobilizing people globally around the concept of food-producing cities. Today, city governments and entrepreneurs are actively working together to build sustainable urban food ecosystems, unlocking new opportunities for resilience, self-sufficiency, economic growth, and improved quality of life. Now, we're excited to take the next step with Greengrounds—a strategic, full-service agency focused on master planning for urban food security. Our mission is to use advanced horticultural and automation expertise to build resilient food solutions for the cities of tomorrow. We offer a comprehensive package of services to deliver master plans and scalable, multi-farm models that make urban food production a practical reality. Our team of specialists is backed by a strong network of businesses with over 65 years of experience in building and operating food production facilities. Together, we're working toward a future where every city can sustainably produce its own food. Sustainable Urban Delta
Non-profitorganisaties
Megacities that embrace food production within their urban areas, producing healthy, fresh food for their citizens.
Over ons
The Sustainable Urban Delta Foundation will inform, orchestrate and stimulate the best efforts and ideas to build a sustainable future. We will partner with all cities who share our ambition on urban food production. Over the next 30 years, a city with more than 9 million inhabitants will arise in a lower delta, every 3 months. Inhabitants of these cities will often live in poor circumstances, facing problems related to water, living, mobility, energy, water and food. On a global level, we see malnutrition, obesity, nitrogen emission, climate change, suffocating concrete jungles… How to make sure these challenges won’t fundamentally deteriorate our quality of life? If we want to counter the great issues of our time and make mega cities livable, we need to fundamentally change our food and land use system. The good news is, we can. How? By creating Sustainable Urban Deltas; mega cities that embrace food production in metropolitan areas to create new connections on a social, ecological, and economic level, providing space for energy, social cohesion, property development and climate. Do you want to join forces with us today? Great! Check out how you can help.

This 1.000 m2 rooftop farm in Rotterdam shows that the sky is the limit. Vegetables, edible flowers and fruit are grown and bees are kept in the middle of the city! DakAkker rooftopfarm brings multiple values to the city: the rooftop farm boosts nature and biodiversity in an urban environment, helps to reduce the 'heat island' effect, limits the number of food miles and works as a sponge to battle against floods. #rooftopfarm #foodproducingcities #floods #greenspace #rotterdam #biodiversity

The Sky Farm is a 5,000-sq ft. gardening space on the 7th floor rooftop of the Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis. The space is used to grow fresh produce to feed the patients, visitors and employees of Eskenazi Health, primarily in educational settings such as health classes or with nutritionists. In its first year, more than 2,200 pounds of fresh veggies, fruits and herbs were harvested. The Sky Farm is open to patients, staff and the community as a space to engage with and learn about produce, how it grows and why it’s important to a healthy lifestyle. #skyfarm #freshfood #hospital #foodproducingcities #rooftopfarm

These initiatives in Hamburg, such as Gut Haidehof, the Food Cluster, and the The Future Food Campus Hamburg, are excellent examples of how a city can transform its food systems to become more sustainable and regenerative. We are proud to play a role in collaborating with these initiatives, which are not only feeding the population but also educating them about the potential of new foods and regenerative practices. 🙏🏽 Eva Keretic, Florian Weischer, Torsten Gasser #food #regenerativefarming #foodproducingcities #foodsystems

PAKT-Antwerpen created a unique ecosystem combining work and experience with ... urban agriculture. In 2017, a mix of 25 businesses established: chefs, brewers, baristas, sports enthusiasts, digital centipedes and other sustainable initiatives found their way to the site. Visitors will find a respite at PAKT where they can enjoy the green, car-free oasis. The rooftop farm was created in collaboration with an agro-biologist and a community expert. A unique 1900 m2 urban agriculture project was created on the roofs of the industrial site. This is now supported by local residents. Today, De Volle Grond is the umbrella cooperative made up of local farmers who sell their local produce in Antwerp, with PAKT as their base. That life around, on and in this hidden gem ensures that PAKT has become a coveted location for numerous entrepreneurs. With the countryside on our roof and the farm country in the middle of the city, PAKT provides an answer to the issues of today's urban society. 💚 Volle Grond 📷 Fred Debrock, William Delvoye #foodproducingcitites #urbanspace #greenspace #rooftopfarm #community

GRO ØsterGro, Øens Have, Gro spiseri og FællesGro, started in 2014 and is the first rooftop farm in Denmark, established on top of the old car-auction house, Nellemannhuset, in the heart of Copenhagen's Climate Neighbourhood. ØsterGro covers 600 m2 with fields of organic vegetables, fruits, greens, herbs, and edible flowers, a greenhouse, a henhouse and three bee hives. ØsterGro is organized as a community-supported agriculture (CSA) and sells its produce, in cooperation with the farms Seerupgaard and Stensbølgård to 40 members. The members pay in advance for half a harvest season for a weekly share of the harvest. Part of the urban farm is the rooftop restaurant Gro Spiseri where you can eat local and organic food in the greenhouse all year round. #foodproducingcities #rooftopfarm #rooftoprestaurant #greenhouse #CSA #copenhagen
