Accelerating Plastic Circularity
Over ons
SYNONA (Tech) develops and licenses solutions to enable a circular plastic supply chain. Its proprietary waste-to-chemicals technology is a superior form of chemical recycling called molecular recycling, designed to reduce and eventually displace the need for virgin fossil feedstocks. SYNOVA's technology, originally developed by TNO, a premier Dutch research institute, is uniquely positioned because it operates at temperatures optimal for the direct conversion of (mixed) plastic and biogenic waste into high value molecules. To harvest the high value molecules in the most desired way for our clients, we cooperate with world class partners. SYNOVA's technology has more than 8,000 hours of independently verified testing at multiple scales.

♻️ What is thermochemical recycling to monomers? ♻️ The most important thermochemical conversion process to produce high value chemicals is called steam cracking. In its furnaces, a hydrocarbon liquid feedstock (naphtha) or a paraffinic gas feedstock is cracked into a gas that is rich in high value chemicals (olefins and single ring aromatics). Downstream of the furnaces those high value chemicals are cleaned and separated from each other and for example the monomer ethylene can be polymerized to polyethylene (PE). SYNOVA has developed and extensively tested a process that does the same with mixed plastic waste as an input instead of a liquid or a gas. Our solids steam cracker furnace called MILENA converts mixed plastic waste straight back into monomers instead of converting it into feedstock. 🔗Find out more about the MILENA technology here: https://lnkd.in/ekjrETDG #ChemicalRecycling #Sustainability #CircularEconomy #Innovation

SYNOVA announces today that Dr. Ir. Nelleke Van Der Puil has joined the SYNOVA Board of Directors as an Independent Director. Nelleke replaces Lynde Coit, who has resigned from his role as an Independent Director. Nelleke brings with her a wealth of experience in, but not limited to, applied material science and production of sustainable plastic products, including their environmental impact, market acceptance and customer satisfaction. Nelleke is currently serving as VP Materials at LEGO Group and is responsible for delivering on the company’s strategy with respect to the development and use of sustainable materials for LEGO products. Prior to joining LEGO, she was VP Technology at Avantium. Nelleke holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Delft University of Technology. Joerg Krueger, CEO and Managing Director at SYNOVA, said: “SYNOVA has a very experienced Board with profound expertise in financing, legal, and the chemical and plastics industry. With Nelleke joining, we gain the additional perspective of consumers and brands. We are very excited about the opportunity to work with Nelleke on the acceleration of plastic circularity.” #SYNOVA #Innovation #PlasticRecycling #Sustainability

🌐♻️ Feedstock for Plastic Recycling Needs to Be Produced Imagine being tasked with finding 10 yellow balls in a ball pit – easy, right? Now, picture the challenge of separating nearly all the yellow ones from the rest. Quite a daunting task, isn't it? The world of plastic recycling faces a similar dilemma. Cherry-picking is easy, but producing clean plastic waste for recycling demands extensive sorting efforts, often requiring substantial investments. But what if there's a more efficient way? 🔄 SYNOVA's Perspective: Instead of exhaustive sorting, what if we embrace the idea of allowing some diversity in our plastic waste? Just as the yellow balls could contain a mix of colors, less meticulous sorting can provide high amounts of feedstock for recycling at a reasonable cost. 💡 Key Message: To achieve meaningful strides in plastic recycling, we must reconsider our approach. SYNOVA takes a bold step by accepting less sorted waste, making the recycling process more sustainable and economically viable. It's time to reshape our thinking and pave the way for a greener future. #PlasticRecycling #Sustainability #Innovation #SYNOVA #CircularEconomy #AdvancedRecycling #ChemicalRecycling #MolecularRecycling #Feedstock #Plastic #Circularity #Gasification #Pyrolysis #Olefins #Recycling #SYNOVATechnology #Cracking ♻️🌍

At SYNOVA we're not just recycling; we're revolutionizing plastic circularity! ♻️ Transitioning from a linear to a circular economy is not just a shift; it's a transformation that turns waste into economic value. With SYNOVA’s game changing technology, we're redefining the narrative around waste management. Our technology specializes in processing dirty mixed plastics (unwashed, still containing food waste and bio residues), making what was once considered non-recyclable a valuable resource. Unlike traditional methods, our patented process doesn't require the separation or washing of plastics, making it not only economical but also significantly reducing the efforts involved. This technology is designed to harvest high-value molecules, primarily olefins and small aromatics, from dirty mixed plastic waste. These molecules can be used to produce new plastics with significant CO2 emission reduction. What makes our process even more sustainable, is our commitment to utilizing every bit of value. Even the energy extracted from the tars in SYNOVA’s superior gas cleanup train is reinvested back into the process, ensuring a comprehensive and efficient waste-to-value transformation. #CircularEconomy #WasteTransformation #Innovation #SynovaTechnology #Sustainability #Temperature #Cracking #Fastheating #Olefins #Pyrolysis #Gasification #Chemicalrecycling #CircularEconomyForPlastics #Sustainability #Technology #AdvancedRecycling #SynovaTech #Plastic #Circularity #Recycling #SYNOVA 🔄🌐

2024 will be an important year for the future of chemical recycling. The EU will agree and decide on which chain of custody model will be adopted to account for the recycled materials produced via different chemical recycling routes. We at SYNOVA look forward to the decision, because it will provide clarity and unlock investments. Nevertheless, it will always be an advantage to implement chemical recycling solutions that are pretty much agnostic to different chain of custody models, because there is always the possibility that a more stringent legislation will be implemented at a later stage. Our chemical recycling solutions produce plastic monomers in the most direct way and the amounts produced from renewable/recycled carbon feedstock can be physically measured. Therefore, the economic boundary conditions of our solutions are only marginally dependent on which mass balancing model will be adopted and are therefore future proof. #SynovaTech #temperature #cracking #fastheating #olefins #pyrolysis #gasification #chemicalrecycling #circulareconomyforplastics #sustainability #technology #advancedrecycling

Fast heating is key in steam cracking processes producing light olefins from e.g. naphtha. Our technology provides very fast heating to solid waste feedstocks. It does so in a fluidized bed where up to 50 kg of hot sand heats up each kg of feedstock. It does so by direct contact. Therefore, the hot sand needs a temperature that is only slightly above the targeted cracker temperature of 700 - 800°C. As a result, over-cracking is limited, which is one of the reasons why SYNOVA’s process produces so much light olefins directly from a plastic-rich waste. #SynovaTech #temperature #cracking #fastheating #olefins #pyrolysis #gasification #chemicalrecycling #circulareconomyforplastics #sustainability #technology #advancedrecycling
