📺 T.b.t. the last month’s State of Dutch Tech 🇳🇱 🤓 We are sharing our insights from their valuable report and this great event once more organised by the fantastic Techleap. Shout out to Mila for inviting us! 🙏 1. Deeptech showing resilience: Despite broader challenges, Dutch tech has shown resilience with a 14% growth in deeptech investments last year, contrasting with a 25% decline in overall tech investment in the Netherlands. This growth is noteworthy, especially when compared to a 36% drop in tech investments across Europe and a 37% global downturn. 2. Funding opportunities: Dutch tech companies typically lag one year behind the European average and two years behind the US average in advancing to the next funding round. 3. Navigating Talent Hurdles: Dutch tech sector faces legislative hurdles in hiring foreign talent with slow visa processing times among the leading issues. As they push for more STEM education and an inclusive environment, cutting red tape is essential to attract the global talent pool the Dutch tech desperately needs. 4. Public support calls: With sizeable and active initiatives like Invest-NL and easing of tech transfer from universities, the Netherlands is taking steps to safeguard its deeptech ambition. Significant challenges such as regulatory support and meaningfully engaging institutional investors like pension funds in the Dutch venture capital remain. 5. International collaboration: Techleap, Endeit Capital and many other in the Netherlands and abroad are actively building connections to global excellence centres with Silicon Valley on top of the wish list. Still lots needs to be done in attracting foreign investments to Dutch startups. 🦾 Dutch tech landscape requires decisive actions and strategic partnerships to thrive. We shared earlier our infographic on the importance of climate action. (Link in comments).   Nature Portfolio published an important article last week on the severe economic impacts of climate change in the next 25 years, until 2049. It is important to stop the easy-going attitudes, truly face the facts and realize that the time to act is NOW. Here are a few of their findings .   1. Global income is expected to decrease by 19% over the next 25 years due to climate impacts, regardless of future emission reductions.   2. Economic losses from climate impacts over the next 25 years are projected to be six times greater than the costs required to keep global warming under 2°C ($38 trillion vs $6 trillion, respectively).   3. The economic burden of climate change will be unevenly distributed. Lower latitude regions, which have lower historical emissions and income levels, will experience the most severe impacts.   4. Climate events have a ‘tail’ effect on economies. Shifts in temperature and precipitation can influence economic growth rates for up to 10 years and 4 years, respectively, after the climate event.   Climate investments will have to hockey-stick once the climate inaction starts seriously costing large corporations their bottom-line performance, says Uros.
