Measuring Instruments Directive (MID) and data plate on IV robots To explain to all our customers, partners and the public what it truly means when you put the CE mark on your product, we have put together a short series of LinkedIn posts, where we will take you through all major components of that process. Today is part 3: Measuring Instruments Directive (MID) and the data plate on IV robots. The Measuring Instruments Directive (MID) is crucial for ensuring the accuracy and reliability of measuring instruments in pharmaceutical compounding. Precision is critical, and robots incorporating measuring systems—like scales for verifying dosages or product weights—must comply with MID standards. This guarantees regulatory compliance, accuracy, and ultimately, patient safety. For the Compounder we wanted to make sure that our weighing system and our software are MID (and WELMEC 7.2, more on this later) compliant. Hence, we asked our national metrology institute as our notified body to certify our compliance. With that we can guarantee the aforementioned patient safety, compliance with regulatory standards, and product consistency. A summary of a machine’s compliance with regulatory standards and its technical capabilities and limits can easily be viewed on the data plate that is affixed to every IV robot. A typical example can be seen 👇. In the last part of our series on CE and what it involves for IV robots, we will focus on WELMEC as it outlines requirements and recommendations for the software used in measuring instruments. What is a Declaration of Conformity? To explain to all our customers, partners and the public what it truly means when you put the CE mark on your product, we have put together a short series of LinkedIn posts, where we will take you through all major components of that process. Today is part 2: Declaration of Conformity. An EU declaration of conformity (DoC) is a mandatory document that we as a manufacturer or the authorised representative need to sign to declare that our products comply with the EU requirements. By signing the DoC we take full responsibility for our product's compliance with the applicable EU law. A few key components of the DoC are: ✅ The relevant legislation with which the product complies, as well as any harmonised standards or other means used to prove compliance ✅The details of the notified body which carried out the conformity assessment procedure (if applicable). Our Compounder is used by pharmacists to prepare parenteral medication which are administered to patients. Hence, complying with the Measuring Instruments Directive (MID) is of great importance: we will look into that and how you can easily check compliance with the MID through the type plate on a machine tomorrow! Stay tuned. Want more info in the meantime? Contact us at info@thecompoundingcompany.com #pharmacy #automation #CE #MID #metrology

What does a CE mark involve? To explain to all our customers, partners and the public what it truly means when you put the CE mark on your product, we have put together a short series of LinkedIn posts, where we will take you through all major components of that process. Today is part 1: CE. The letters ‘CE’ appear on many products traded on the extended Single Market in the European Economic Area (EEA). They signify that products sold in the EEA have been assessed to meet high safety, health, and environmental protection requirements. Manufacturers, like ourselves, play a vital role in ensuring that products placed on the extended single market of the EEA are safe. It is our responsibility to carry out the conformity assessment, set up the technical file, issue the EU declaration of conformity and affix the CE marking to our Compounder. With that, we declare that the product meets all the legal requirements for CE marking and can be sold throughout the EEA. Keep following us to see the next part in this series on the Declaration of Conformity. Want more info in the meantime?
