Tracking beer crates through RFID: Here’s how we solved a supply chain challenge for AB InBev When AB InBev, one of the largest brewers in the world, approached us, they wanted to automatically track their beer crates throughout the supply chain using RFID. The challenge: Each pallet holds 70 beer crates, but here’s the tricky part—beer is 95% water, and water absorbs the radio waves used in RFID communication. This meant the crates in the middle of the pallet couldn’t always be read. Many had tried, but previous solutions had failed. Our solution: We optimized everything—both the RFID tags and the portal setup. By using advanced Impinj readers and highly sensitive Axem antennas, we created a powerful 3-sided RFID portal that captured signals from even the hardest-to-reach tags. The result? Our system achieved a near-perfect read rate, successfully tracking all 70 crates as they moved through the supply chain. When Van der Kleij Laundry approached us, they were facing a challenge common to many industries: tracking inventory and ensuring accurate, timely deliveries. Their traditional process of managing hotel linen was time-consuming and labor-intensive, limiting operational efficiency. The challenge: They needed an automated system that could track large volumes of linens across multiple hotels, reduce manual intervention, and ensure reliable stock levels for their clients.
