📝 Insights from Our Recent Member Meeting: Empowering True Pricing in Food Systems 💬 The mission of our Global Partnership on the True Price of Food (GPTPF) with Netherlands Food Partnership is to enable actors in the food sector to embrace and apply true pricing on a large scale. Our goal is to equip governments and businesses with the tools to make healthy, sustainable, and affordable food available to all. The GPTPF member meetings are a space for members to share their projects, confront challenges, and learn more about True Pricing. Here are some key highlights from last week’s meeting: 🔎 Agu Gonzales shared new research by Wageningen University & Research , exploring entry points for True Price initiatives in Ethiopia, Rwanda, Kenya, and Egypt. Ethiopia and Rwanda, in particular, show strong potential for adopting true pricing models. 🍽️ Mazen Helmy presented on RDNA, his shop in Egypt, and its collaboration with True Price to enhance transparency and sustainability, especially in the meat value chain. 🥣 Stefan Baecke from Yespers shared how they apply True Pricing to create fair supply chains and reduce waste and environmental impacts. 🛠️ Pietro Galgani introduced our new Remediation Guidelines, emphasizing the shared responsibility across the food supply chain to account for the true price. Over ons
With all the stuff you buy you leave traces behind. Your morning coffee, daily T-shirt, or evening lipstick. Often, natural and social costs are involved. For example, social costs include extremely low wages or unsafe work environment for workers and examples of natural costs are air pollution or water waste. This damage has a price for people and nature, which isn't included in the prices you pay at the store. At True Price, we are working on our mission of making it possible for you to see and voluntarily pay the true price of your own products. True Price also guides and trains companies towards implementing the true price practice.

🌍 The FAO State of Food and Agriculture Report and the role of true pricing 🌍 The newly published FAO State of Food and Agriculture (SOFA) Report emphasizes the need for addressing the hidden environmental and social costs in food systems. At True Price, we are proud to have contributed to this critical report, which draws on insights from our true pricing work to highlight how transparency in the food chain can drive sustainable practices. The FAO report underscores that global food systems suffer from distributional imbalances, with certain populations bearing the hidden costs of unsustainable practices. It recommends addressing these inequities through strong governance, clear regulatory frameworks, and inclusive stakeholder engagement. FAO points out how true pricing promotes behavioral change by providing transparency. As the report states, even if the impact is initially modest, it gives consumers insight into higher prices for sustainable products and encourages long-term shifts toward environmentally and socially responsible choices. True pricing reflects the environmental and social costs of production, an approach already embraced by companies like De Aanzet, Van Vessem Bakery, and the catering company Vermaat in the Netherlands. As acknowledged in the FAO report, these pioneers incorporate true prices into their products, helping consumers make informed choices by bridging the gap between production costs and sustainability impacts. For instance, Vermaat's initiative led to a 20% reduction in meat consumption and a sevenfold increase in vegetarian dishes by transparently showing the true costs of different food options. This not only encourages sustainable consumption but also fosters stronger relationships between farmers and consumers, aligning with the FAO's call for more equitable and transparent food systems. Ultimately, the FAO report concludes that true pricing plays a vital role in transforming global agrifood systems, as it supports the development of food systems that are not only economically viable but also socially and environmentally just. By following these principles, we can create a more sustainable future where consumers and businesses alike prioritize the well-being of people and the planet. We are proud to see True Price methodology and mission recognized as a pivotal element in the necessary transition of the world food system and we look forward to continuing to promote the use of true pricing and true cost accounting through our Global Partnership on the True Price of Food 🌿 #TruePrice #Sustainability #FAO #FoodSystem #BehavioralChange #FoodTransparency #SustainableDevelopment #EconomicJustice The DOEN Foundation, De Turing Foundation, Gieskes-Strijbis Fonds, Netherlands Food Partnership, Stichting Symbio

COP16 – Reflections After Day Two 🌍 We’ve been immersed in thought-provoking discussions on how true price and true cost accounting can help drive a nature-positive future. Ultimately, we believe that through shifting mindsets and transforming our accounting systems, we can build a more sustainable and inclusive economy. 🌿 Yesterday, during Food Day, we participated in two inspiring sessions: “Accelerating and Validating Nature Positive Business Actions” at the NL Pavilion, and “Food Systems for People and Planet: How True Cost Accounting Can Offer a Roadmap Toward Solutions” at the CGIAR Pavilion. These conversations reinforced the critical role of true pricing in shaping the future of food systems, making the invisible visible and encouraging all actors to take action. Tomorrow, we’re excited to host “Mainstreaming Biodiversity: Impact Measurement and the Role of the Financial Sector” alongside Impact Institute, featuring industry leaders from the financial sector. Together, we’ll explore the importance of impact measurement and valuation in creating positive change. If you're in Cali this week, don't miss the chance to connect with our team members Estefania Marti Malvido and Maurits Appeldoorn ! Let's continue the journey towards making peace with nature. 🌱 #COP16 #trueprice #truecostaccounting #sustainability #impactmeasurement #foodsystems

"If you pay the true price, what happens to the money?" When I started at True Price 10 years ago, the main question people had was "is it actually possible to calculate the true price?". In more recent times, after we have showed it is possible, most questions we are getting are about true price payments. True price payments are a already a reality, even though experimental, in an increasing number of canteens and events, thanks to the courage of catering companies, NGOs, and local and national Dutch government agencies that request it, and with the pioneering work of supermarkets experimenting with it like De Aanzet in Amsterdam and Penny in Germany. The race to the bottom of externalizing social and environmental costs must be stopped, and we advocate for government action to implement policy against external costs in the first place. But let's face it, there are businesses, people and investors that can already step up and decide to use true prices now. Introducing true price payments in the market can activate us (as people, businesses and investors) and raise hard-needed funds for transition-makers working towards a fairer and regenerative economy. But it must be done right, and that's why with the True Price team we are launching guidelines on this, that will be published soon. With Estefania Marti Malvido we wrote a blog to share some insights: - What does it mean to pay the true price? - What can the role of true price funding be in the transition to a better economic system? - Why we need to speak of 'remediation', and 'Remediation Guidelines'? - Do people or companies pay the true price? Read the blog -> https://lnkd.in/edCqX8bi Subscribe to the True Price newsletter to hear about the upcoming publication -> https://lnkd.in/eugyr4Xn Get in touch if you want to learn more about piloting true price initiatives with your business or your value chain partners. Thank you Chocolonely Foundation for the support, and FairMatch Support, Vermaat, Grounded, Odin, TRUESDAY, De Aanzet, Consumers International and more for the valuable input along the way
