Making net-zero value chains possible by driving Scope 3 action at scale. The future we want; the world we need.
Over ons
To make net-zero value chains possible by 2050, we need organisations committed to delivering positive environmental and social impact up and down their value chains. This requires the courage to challenge the status quo, as well as new ways and means to make change happen. The Value Change Initiative is a consortium of ambitious, committed organisations writing a playbook for positive change. We are the world’s leading multi-stakeholder forum working to remove barriers to address and account for Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions to drive action at scale. The Value Change Initiative is co-founded by Gold Standard and SustainCERT, working alongside recognized frameworks such as the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and the Science Based Target Initiative. Together, we are defining value beyond mere economic indicators – rewarding those who create the future we want and the world we need.

As the year wraps up, I’ve been reflecting on the past few months. It’s been a really rewarding year with lots of personal and organizational milestones. * We held our annual responsible sourcing and production meetings, where we talked about the importance of using climate mitigation targets to drive positive change on the ground, and also looked beyond mitigation, towards adaptation and a just transition. * We got involved in some great external discussions, like securing a spot for Proforest in the new Technical Working Group of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol), attending Climate Week NYC, becoming a member of the Value Change Initiative, and contributing to some amazing work led by Conservation International. To keep building internal capacity, we took part in the International Platform for Insetting (IPI)'s Insetting Practitioner Course. * We published a report on climate finance for a soy landscape initiative in Brazil with partner organizations. * At the Proforest-Nestlé sugar planning meetings, we built some great partnerships between ESG, procurement, and suppliers. * We participated in several events leading up to COP30 in Brazil. Hopes are high, and we’re excited to contribute and ensure the private sector plays its part. As always, the greatest aspect of working at Proforest is not just the incredible opportunities for professional development and working on crucial sustainability agendas, but the amazing people we are surrounded by. Thanks for another year!

As part of our collaboration with ISEAL, we encourage our members to take part in their open consultation on revisions to their Chain of Custody (CoC) Definitions and Models Guidance. The goal of this revision is to provide stakeholders across sectors with definitions and frameworks that are clear, consistent, and relevant, supporting them as they navigate this dynamic landscape. Please note that CoC might apply to a wide range of topics, including GHG emissions. To read more about the open consultation and fill in the survey, please visit their website - https://lnkd.in/egkQ3KKq #ChainOfCustody #OpenConsultation #GHGemissions #survey

Don't miss this event taking place next week featuring Tanja Havemann of Clarmondial AG 👇
We are excited that Tanja Havemann, our Director and Founder, will be speaking at Data Lab – Beyond Carbon on 4th December at 4 PM CET / 10 AM EST. This session is organized by the Value Change Initiative (VCI), a peer-to-peer learning forum bringing together 500+ climate experts, developing solutions to implement and achieve value chain emission reductions & removals. Participation in the Data Lab – Beyond Carbon is one of the many benefits of being a VCI member. The Lab provides an opportunity for members to enhance their understanding of climate impact beyond carbon, diving deep into key metrics, such as no-deforestation, land use change, land tracking, and water. For more details, visit VCI’s website or follow them on LinkedIn Value Change Initiative.

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is updating its Corporate Net Zero Standard, including how environmental attribute certificates (EACs) might be used for Scope 3 💡 VCI responded to the recent open consultation on SBTi’s Scope 3 discussion paper, based on our pioneering value chain work and the challenges we see our corporate members dealing with. Our work, based on the contributions of 100+ corporate members, is uniquely positioned to contribute to the innovation and development of Scope 3 standards. ➡ Our main takeaway is that companies need flexibility to be able to take decisive climate action – but safeguards need to be in place to ensure credibility. ✴ VCI has been actively engaging in SBTi’s open consultations and collaborating via other avenues over the years. The SBTi is a member of VCI and participates as an observer in VCI Working Groups and Labs. Read more about our input in our new blog: https://lnkd.in/e6v_35Ex #netzero #sciencebasedtargets #scope3
