We’re pleased to announce that Jeffrey van Geloof has been appointed CEO of WPU. Jeffrey has extensive commercial and operational experience, most recently as managing director of Vitol’s VPR refinery, based in Rotterdam, where he has been instrumental in bringing about significant technical innovation and efficiency to the operation of the #refinery. These improvements have substantially reduced the refinery’s environmental impact resulting in: - 40% reduction in energy consumption - 50% reduction in NOx refinery emissions - 80% reduction in SO2 refinery emissions And a leading processing carbon intensity of 3.5kgCO2e/bbl refined vs. a global average of 40kg. These reductions have been achieved alongside a 25% increase in production. This is expertise that will be invaluable in his new role, as Jeffrey commented on his appointment; ‘I am excited by the opportunity to use my experience to be involved at the cutting edge of waste plastic recycling, focusing on innovation and scale to underpin the possibility of a circular plastics system. As we move forward, my focus will be on building upon the strong foundation already in place and creating sustainable growth for the future. Public holidays can have a significant impact on road fuel consumption. Typically, commuting and commercial vehicle activity pauses as workplaces temporarily shut. Usually this is not fully offset by an up-tick in vacation related mobility. It is particularly notable with big celebratory events such as Lunar New Year and the forthcoming #Christmas festive period. In Europe, combined #gasoline and road #diesel demand, typically decline by around 1 million bpd in the last week of December. Demand then takes several weeks to recover while commercial activity ramps up again but winter weather and short days tend to limit discretionary driving.

We're pleased to announce the completion of the majority of the transaction to acquire a controlling interest in the plastics #recycling company WPU.   With the capacity to recycle 30,000 tonnes of #wasteplastic a year, and plans for additional sites to increase this to 180,000 tonnes a year by 2026, WPU offers a scalable solution to the growing problem of plastic waste.   'Vitol is excited to invest in a scalable solution for plastics recycling. We look forward to working with WPU and our valued offtake partners to expand and develop the circular plastics industry,' commented Tom Baker, head of naphtha, Vitol.   As of today, Vitol owns 89.14% of the share capital of WPU, with the remainder of the transaction expected to be completed on Monday 23 December, taking Vitol’s total ownership to 90.36%.   https://lnkd.in/eMD8VyE3   #naphtha #sustainable #commodities
