NEORION: A REFIT FOR A TRUE CLASSIC SY Neorion, a 95-foot classic schooner, is currently at VMG Yachtbuilders for a refit. After a beautiful sailing season, her owner saw the opportunity to carry out a refit this winter and bring the yacht back to excellent condition for the years ahead. Together with owner’s representative Maarten Versfeld and our trusted partners, we’re working on both her appearance and technical systems to get her ready for many more miles at sea. The yacht’s exterior is getting a full refit. The exterior woodwork, including varnish work, is being carefully refinished. The teak deck is being repaired where needed to restore it to excellent condition, ensuring it remains both functional and visually appealing. Several windows are being replaced, and all deck hatches and rubbers are being checked to make sure the yacht is watertight. The stainless steel work is handled by SDH, ensuring that every detail aligns with Neorion’s classic character. Inside the yacht, various touch-ups are being made to improve both comfort and functionality. Floorboards and stairs are being repaired to remove dents and reduce future wear. Sealing in bathrooms, the galley, and other wet areas is being refreshed, while metal components are being replaced where necessary. Neorion’s technical systems are undergoing a complete inspection and upgrade to ensure reliable performance during long voyages. The engine room is being thoroughly cleaned and refreshed, both technically and cosmetically, with key components such as the propulsion and steering systems being fully serviced. Our partners Jongkind Service Medemblik and Brovo are handling much of the technical work, focusing on systems such as the engines, generators, tanks, and piping. By addressing potential leaks, corrosion, and outdated components, we’re making sure that the yacht’s systems remain safe, efficient, and ready for many more adventures. WHAT HAPPENS AT THE YARD: DECEMBER It may not be a white Christmas, but after a very busy year, the team at VMG Yachtbuilders has certainly earned a holiday break. Last Thursday, we celebrated together with a cozy Christmas gathering, reflecting on everything we’ve achieved this year. Although we closed the doors for the holidays, we couldn’t end the year without: WHAT HAPPENS AT THE YARD DECEMBER! Our main hall is busy, as no fewer than three sport fishing boats are being completed. Meanwhile, in the carpentry hall, we’re preparing three prefab interiors for these boats. Work on the Simmerdream is also continuing steadily. The forward cabin has been fully stripped and is ready for rebuild. The aft cabin is now being dismantled and prepared for the installation of her new interior. Over at SDH, the team is performing magic. The hull of the Puffin 42 has been turned, and her superstructure is already in place. The hull has been sanded once, revealing the Puffin’s elegant lines. Incredible work from SDH! On the impressive Neorion, the technical refit is progressing smoothly. Preparations are now being made to begin the cosmetic phase of this 95' schooner. Last week, we finally did the photoshoot with the Tulipa! Here’s a sneak preview, and in January, we’ll share the rest of the photos along with an amazing film of this impressive yacht. As for VMG Yachting, all sold Arcona yachts and Delta Powerboats are safely stored for the winter. Preparations are in full swing for Boot Düsseldorf early next year, where the brand-new Delta 48 Coupé will be showcased. LOOKING BACK AT 2024: A YEAR OF CRAFTSMANSHIP AT VMG YACHTBUILDERS As 2024 comes to an end, we look back on a year filled with beautiful projects and significant progress at the yard. From refits to new builds, we worked on many special yachts that we are proud to share. Early in the year, we completed the refit of Taeke Hadewych. We carefully updated the entire interior to match his original style and his owners wishes for modernization, after which he was ready to sail into the new season. Around the same time, the classic 1910 Dutch saloon boat Sally spent the winter at our yard for an intensive refit. She was prepared for many more years of hosting guests in comfort and style, continuing her long maritime history. Our team has been hard at work all year on the 17-meter full-carbon motor yacht Tulipa. The final finishing touches have been made to ensure she meets the high standards we strive for. Keep an eye out for this exceptional yacht in the upcoming season! The yard has also been busy with the construction of three 49ft American sport fishing boats. One is nearing completion, while the others are progressing steadily. These projects show our ability to deliver tailored solutions for brand owners, creating high-quality boats through close collaboration. Another beautiful project that arrived in our carpentry hall this year is the Simmerdream. This 1946 De Vries Lentsch motor yacht, designed by De Voogt, has come to VMG for an extensive interior refit. We’ve started by dismantling her interior completely, and she will receive a modernized interior design that stays true to her original style and class. This year, a new Puffin 42 was sold, and construction has already begun. SDH is working on the hull, and her elegant lines are already taking shape. This project is another great collaboration with Olivier van Meer, designer of these timeless sailing yachts. At the end of the year, a beautiful new project arrived at our service yard: the 95’ schooner Neorion. She is now safely covered up for the winter, to stay warm while still allowing us to perform work on her during the colder months. WHAT HAPPENS AT THE YARD: NOVEMBER November might bring colder days, but at VMG Yachtbuilders, the work never slows down. Here’s what we’ve been up to this month: We’re making solid progress on the Simmerdream, as the first phase of her interior refit is now off to a great start. The interior of the salon has been completely removed, as you can see in the photos. The next step is treating the hull, after which we’ll begin constructing her new interior. At Super Duplex Hulls, significant progress has been made on the Puffin 42. With all the plates now in place, her hull is really starting to take shape. Each step forward feels like a milestone in her journey! The first 49 Express Sport Fishing Boat has arrived, joining her two sister boats already in production. She shares the same hull design as the others but features a different superstructure. Our team is working on two fronts: technical installations are moving ahead, while her interior is being constructed within the mockup in our carpentry hall. Meanwhile, Tulipa remains safely indoors as we add the final touches. She’ll be ready soon, perfect in every detail! At our service yard, we are working on the 95’ schooner Neorion. Being surrounded by a beautiful setting with centuries of yacht building tradition is always inspiring. Boats are best in their natural habitat, and Enkhuizen is the perfect backdrop.
