“I am happy to have my toilet emptied by this new technology, especially as it has been flooding during the rainy season for the last ten years.” 🚽 🎉 The joyful reaction of Sakani, a local resident of Magu District in Tanzania, after having her toilet emptied by a newly trained local team. We may take the processing of our toilet waste for granted, but for communities in Tanzania like Sakani’s, it is a lifeline. Two years ago, it was discovered that an alarming 80% of faecal sludge in this community was not being safely managed. A scenario which created all kinds of health and environmental risks, with the community sitting at the edge of Lake Victoria – a precious resource which over 40 million people rely on across East Africa. Fast forward to today and Sakani’s community is celebrating the implementation of an innovative technology – the PuPu pump - designed to address the critical issue of pit emptying that cannot be serviced by conventional vacuum trucks. A solution which local teams are now taking ownership of after receiving training on enhancing faecal sludge treatment practices. 👉 Read our latest article to discover more and join us in our mission to create cleaner, healthier communities: https://lnkd.in/e3jjtJq9 #Sustainability #Sanitation #LakeVictoria #WasteManagement #CircularEconomy #innovation #Tanzania Sumeet Pawar Henock Belete Asfaw Sajib Mahanta Nouria Ouibrahim, MBA VEI Practica Global Water Operators' Partnerships Alliance/UN-Habitat (GWOPA) Valentin Post Robert Vuik Andries van Eckeveld FINISH Mondial Joohi Khushbu Anja Bruschweiler
