Why would you want to use Agentic RAG instead of 'normal' RAG? Agentic RAG is, in contrast to normal RAG, using agents to make a decision on what to do, instead of following a pre-defined pipeline. 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐅𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬 1. Smart Routing: Agents automatically decide which knowledge sources to query and whether to search internal databases or the web. 2. Intelligent Queries: The system writes its own optimized search queries - no more worrying about perfect search terms! 3. Advanced Processing: Goes beyond simple retrieval to actually process and format the information for your specific needs. 𝐁𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐭𝐬 • More accurate responses • Autonomous task completion • Better human collaboration • Smarter information retrieval Whilst more powerful, Agentic RAG can be slower, as it involves multiple LLM passes to ‘decide’ before you receive a response. But this can be mitigated by using smaller language models for the decision agents, and a larger model for the response. You could retrieve the information, summarise each item, and send it via email, all with your agentic RAG. Find out more: https://lnkd.in/dUqS3cxS

👩🍳 RAG over PDFs has never been easier (or faster). This Docling / Weaviate recipe is proof. Docling is a new open-source tool from IBM that parses PDFs and other documents simply, quickly, and without the need for massive compute. Here’s what else it offers: 🗂️ Conversion from PDF, DOCX, PPTX, XLSX, Images, HTML, AsciiDoc & Markdown formats to Markdown and JSON 📑 Advanced PDF document understanding powered by DocLayNet and TableFormer 🤖 Integrations with LlamaIndex 🦙 & LangChain 🦜🔗 (for RAG!) 🔍 OCR support for scanned PDFs 💻 Simple and convenient CLI for batch converting documents 🤔 What makes Docling so special? Docling is an accessible open source alternative for document understand that doesn’t require insane compute resources. It can be run on commodity hardware (think MacBook Pro, Google Colab Pro Notebook, GitHub Codespace) and doesn’t require a huge budget, tons of memory, or fancy cloud resources. 📒 I’ve created a Google Colab notebook, using Docling and Weaviate that shows you how to: • Parse machine learning papers from arXiv using Docling • Perform hierarchical chunking of the documents using Docling • Generate text embeddings with OpenAI • Perform RAG over the articles using Weaviate 🔗 Notebook: https://lnkd.in/gdt-7aP4 ❗Want a fully open-source recipe notebook? My event recap for 11-6-2024 Hack Night at GitHub is here! I looked back at the photos and videos and recalled what a good time I personally had, and the fantastic connections we made that night. At this Hack Night Presented by Weaviate, we brought together yet another astounding group of innovative companies - Grant Gasser of Lightning AI - Chia Hwu of Wikimedia Foundation - Atchuth Naveen Chilaparasetti of LMNT - Aman Sharma ⧉ of Lamatic.ai - And Me of Weaviate! I’m not gonna spoil the goodness in this LinkedIn post that we (the speakers) shared about our technologies and how we made this evening electrifying, but we’ll have plenty more Hack Nights to come, and you should join one soon. At the end of the evening, we saw some pretty epic demos from astounding builders like John Chen with the “Bad Jokinator”, Shicheng Huang with a RAG Project on popular Chinese blogs, Mitchell Williams with “Guess That Wikipedia Page!”, Pranav Kanade with the “AI History Nerd”. (PS - This isn't everyone!) Shoutout to John for going further after Hack Night and integrating LMNT to apply text to speech over the bad jokes generated from his Hack Night Project, and also congrats to Mitch for winning the best Demo prize that night. It's amazing to see what developers can do with our technologies in just a few short hours. Beyond the technology companies above, we had a pretty awesome collaboration at this Hack Night with Pierce Kelaita from the The GenAI Collective to create a structured format where attendees could connect with the companies in an authentic and genuine capacity. Stoked that we were able to bring this collaboration to life. Thank you to Nele Uhlemann from Fiberplane for inviting the entire developer community to an incredibly fun Type Safety Pub Quiz we hosted later than week, and also thank you to Kunal Kushwaha for coming out, jamming with devs, and giving away free tickets to Civo Navigate, a conference I’m super excited about for 2025. There’s a lot that goes into Hack Night at GitHub, but truthfully, a lot of the magic that happens here is because of an incredible manager, Philip Vollet, and an incredible team Danny Williams, Mary Newhauser, Femke Plantinga, Edward Schmuhl, Victoria Slocum, Leonie Monigatti, Prajjwal Yadav, Anna Chope. Enjoy the event recap video!
