Find out which trees are most common in Amsterdam and how they serve bees 🐝🌳❤️ Amsterdam’s trees are a haven for honey bees! Thanks to these bee-friendly trees, alongside a growing community of beekeepers, 33 million honey bees now call the city home. 🌳 Elm Trees (Iepen) Amsterdam is with 75.000 elm trees Europes capital of inner-city elm tree population! They bloom early and are a key nutriment supporter for the bees. 🐝 Poplar Trees (Populier) With around 14,000 trees, poplars are among the most common in Amsterdam. Bees use the resin from their buds to seal holes in their hives. 🍒 Cherry Trees (Kersenboom) You’ll find plenty of bee-loved fruit trees blooming each spring in Westerpark and the Amsterdamse Bos. These trees are a fantastic food source for pollinators. 🌿Lime Trees (Linden boom) Lime trees are among the best for bees, providing nectar with their late summer blooms. 🌰 Chestnut Trees (Paarden Kastanje) Amsterdam is home to many chestnut trees, which nourish bees with their long blooms. Bees also use the tree’s resin to build their hives. 🍁Maple Trees (Esdoorn) Maple trees are a sweet treat for bees, offering nectar from May to June. 🇬🇧 Teamwork, flowers, and hot chocolate! ☕🌸 Last Saturday, we successfully planted hundreds of flower bulbs around the Bee Palace in Westerpark, with help from the Municipality of Amsterdam and a group of wonderful volunteers. The flowers’ nectar will welcome the bees in early spring, offering them a convenient first meal as they emerge from hibernation. Afterwards, we warmed up with hot chocolate at Het Woeste Westen and learned about the history and conservation of Westerpark’s nature reserve. It was the perfect way to round off the year and prepare for the seasons ahead! 🇳🇱 Teamwork, bloemen en warme choco! ☕🌸⁠ ⁠ Afgelopen zaterdag hebben we met succes honderden bloembollen geplant rond het Bijenpaleis in het Westerpark, met hulp van de gemeente Amsterdam en een groep fantastische vrijwilligers. De nectar van de bloemen zal de bijen in het vroege voorjaar verwelkomen en een handige eerste maaltijd zijn wanneer ze uit hun winterslaap komen.⁠ Daarna warmden we op met warme chocolademelk bij Het Woeste Westen en leerden we over de geschiedenis en het behoud van het natuurgebied in het Westerpark. How you will help: Fundraising and Donation management: Develop and implement fundraising strategies, actively reach out to potential donors during your internship, and cultivate relationships to enhance and maintain donor loyalty. Diversification of Income Streams: Identify and create new funding opportunities, such as grants and partnerships, while developing targeted marketing strategies to broaden financial support. Research project: Come up with interesting business solutions or research findings on how to make bee-preservation commercially relevant (sponsorship strategy). Administration and Organisation: Help keep our projects and volunteers on track by setting up meetings and staying on top of emails, updates, plans and administration of our foundation. What you will bring: You are motivated, creative and well organized with a passion for environmental issues. You are pursuing a degree in environmental science, communications, economics, business, politics, public relations, or a related field. Join us on the 14th to put our bulbs in the ground before it freezes, and they will provide our pollinators with the earliest flowers of the year. We bring the bulbs, you bring your friends and a spade if you can. In de vroege lente zijn bloembollen zeldzaam, en bloembollen zijn dé oplossing. Help ons de 14e om onze bloembollen in de grond te krijgen voor het gaat vriezen. Dan zorgen zijn voor de eerste bloemen van het jaar die de bestuivers zo hard nodig hebben. Wij nemen de de bollen mee, neem jij je vrienden mee en een spade als je die hebt?
