Looking back to a sunny(!) and inspiring excursion:
P4 UL: The nitrogen crisis, from an environmental challenge to new forms of coexistence.
- The Noord-Brabant province as a case study -
The province of Noord-Brabant regroups the higher sand plateaus south of the Netherlands facing the low lying river and delta clayish landscapes.
It is an intense living and transportation environment sequenced by few nature reserves and a large part of intensive croplands and livestock farms.
The actual nitrogen policy questions the future of agriculture and livestocks in the vicinity of the Natura 2000 nature reserve, the transportation, industrial and building infrastructure.
Nord Brabant is one of the fastest growing provinces in NL and has a thriving technological sector, which forms an interesting juxtaposition between future and past. In the future, this province will have to deal with frequent flash floods and droughts. Considering the rising sea level , could it also be a good place for the relocation of a part of the population of the low-lands?
The 2nd year landscape architect and urban design students of the Academie van Bouwkunst Amsterdam van Bouwkunst have 16 weeks to reflect of these questions and bring their narratives to life. Halfway through the studio, their first concepts are refreshing, provocative and promising. We are all looking forward to the next 8 weeks!
